I was reading about how Obama will win VA based on the black vote.

I think he will win VA because of the incredibly educated NoVa population (that put Webb in the Senate) and the party support for him in VA, from Tim Kaine on down.

Ethnically, Virginia has a large black population, but also has impressive immigrant populations in the ever expanding north, and some coastal areas. It will be interesting to see how Hillary does.

So I wouldn't attribute Obama probably winning VA (which he will) entirely to black voters... that doesn't give his campaign enough credit.

(Jesse Jackson did win VA in 1988, for whatever that means, but the demographics of the State have changed a lot since then.)

Chesapeake Primary fun fact: A few days ago the county executive of Prince Georges County, Maryland, endorsed Hillary and it was probably seen as a ho-hum minor endorsement to people who don't know the DC area. It was actually a big surprise. PG county is actually among the biggest majority black political entities in the country. Because it's a county, not a city, and because county executive doesn't sound as impressive as mayor, the story fell through the cracks. PG county doesn't have the profile of Detroit or Oakland, but it's a large, populous county that may have a bigger black population than DC does. Between Baltimore and PG county it's hard to see how Barack could ose Maryland.
