First wave of Obama staff hitting TX an amazing 60!!!!
Texans for Obama has been run entirely by volunteers since the end of 2006. We have monthly meetups and nightly phone banks in addition to parties at Scholz Garten and Victory Grill for every event possible - debates, results watch parties, etc. We had over 400 people at Scholz last night and it was a blast! We signed people up for every needed task - phone banking, blockwalking, data entry, housing an Obama staffer, etc.
Please check out http://www.texansforobama.com for daily updates on where our events are and how you can help. You can sign up on the website for email updates (which are now about weekly) if you aren't on the list already.

There was not a paid Obama staffer on the ground here in Texas until 3 days ago when the first one arrived. We are getting a wave of at least 60 paid staffers on the ground here this Friday. We are opening an office here in Austin within the next few days, with regional offices to follow.

2. The temperment in Houston is great
It's building to a giant roar. UH and TSU will be huge for Obama. Plus, we have done much to counter Sheila Jackson lee, who has yet to listen to her constituents. Houston will be big for Obama: My prediction is Harris County will vote 55 - 44 for Obama. And we vote a whole bunch of folks.

9. Yes, it is not Austin or Houston that I am worried about.
South Texas Hispanics and all those rural areas are my cause for concern

Austin, Houston and the city of Dallas (not the burbs) better come out BIG for Obama, or we won't do well, I imagine.

I am not from Tx, but my daughter lived in Austin several years, and I have Repug family in Dallas.

19. They will
Houston has more voters than Iowa. And we don't have a warm spot for Hillary.

17. Obama may just win big in Texas on March 4th
I think that Hillary Clinton isn't a political "brand" that plays well here in Texas. I think Barak Obama could have a very good day on March 4th here in Texas.

I had lunch today with my 83 year old dad and 79 year old mom. I decided to call my dad out and see where he stands. (Normally, my parents are independents who happen to vote Republican most of the time -- like almost always.)

I said, "So, Dad, if it's John McCain versus Barak Obama, how are you gonna vote?"

Dad said, "I don't like McCain. I'll probably vote for Obama."

I then said, "OK, if it's McCain versus Hillary Clinton, how are you gonna vote?"

Dad said, "McCain! I'm not going to vote for that b*tch."

Now, this was remarkable first because my dad doesn't use that sort of language normally I was genuinely surprised. But, second, I have been surprised to learn that my dad and some other seniors I know are attracted to Barak Obama. He's not just the "anti-Hillary" to them. He's seen as the best choice out there. They're ready to cross over and vote for him. Amazing!

From my own highly subjective Texas-based perspective, I see the presidential election metric like this:

John McCain vs. Hillary Clinton = President McCain

John McCain vs. Barak Obama = President Obama

Actually, if any one of those three Senators gets to the White House, we'll at least have a grownup in there. I think that they're all highly intelligent and capable people. McCain is loathed by the neocons who have been so used to having their way. I love that, but he's still a Republican with a Republican agenda. Hillary Clinton is extremely capable, but let's face it. She's a lightning rod and the electorate is still pretty charged up. She's a big negative to an enormous group from the right and across the middle of the electorate. Barak Obama, on the other hand, has Democrats fired up and independents and conservatives are warming up to him also. The positive energy seems to be flowing his way. I want a Democrat in the White House. The obvious choice -- assuming that we'd like to WIN this time -- seems to be Barak Obama.

18. I'm a Latina, a Texan and an Obama supporter
There's plenty more to be said.

While it's true that Clinton is still polling 10 points higher than Obama here our system for allocating delegates is a hybrid mix both voting and by caucus.

It ain't over till it's over.

12. Have some family spread around the state
Between Dallas, Houston, Austin, Kingsville, etc. Unfortunately, I'm the black sheep (Dem). I do know that the only thing that will get them to the polls in November would be a Hillary candidacy.

25. Voter registration deadline was Feb 4th
I hope she did got in on time. Texas has a 30 day advance voter registration law.

If she missed it, please have her fill it out anyway so she's ready for the Nov. election

Texas Secretary of State's site where she can download a registration application

20. Primary voting on March 4th caucuses start at 7:15 that day
They happen right after the polls close in the same locations where precinct voting occurs. If you early vote then just go back to your precinct voting location and bring your voter registration card.

23. Texas primary = Tuesday, March 4
No party registration in Texas. Anyone who's registered to vote can show up and decide at the door which primary to vote in. Of course, EVERYONE will vote in the Democratic primary this time.

Maybe the true Republicans will vote for Hillary to set her for a whuppin' in the General Election.
