They thought she'd just cake-walk to the crown without much opposition. I mean, how dare people not just let her take it. What do they think this is, a democracy?

18. Ummm..........no, my friend, it's the HRC
supporters who better fit that definition. They can't stand the fact that she actually has credible opposition 'cause she and they expected her to just cake-walk and have it handed to her. And their reaction to this strong opposition has been distortion and nastiness born of desperation, resentment and panic. That's more cultish.

26. I think we're a testbed for the Clinton smear machine
Problem with this new cult meme is that it didn't pass the smell test here, not even close, but they ran with it anyway. It's the stupidest and frankly lamest political smear I've ever seen in my life. Grow the fuck up, it's embarrassing for DU and the Democratic party.

And then what happens if HRC gets the nod. Will they be expecting all of us brainwashed cult members to be on their side? Of course they will - and for those who remember the hate they're dumping on us now - there will only be more demonizing. Hard to believe these are Democrats.

23. The word is deplorable to use in politics - except perhaps for descriptions
of Lyndon LaRouche and his supporters - and I am sadly only half joking there.

So I will join with you in attacking this type of smear. But do me a favor also, please ponder what elements of how the Obama campaign has been conducted that might provide a kernal of reality to this type of otherwise baseless attack. Not everyone who is somewhat critical at times of the extended pep rally and slogan based aspect of the Obama campaign is defacto out to get you all instatutionalized.

Cult is by far the much more damaging word to throw about, but stop and take a look sometime of how the adjective "desperate" got institutionalized in the ranks of Obama supporters as a necessary addition to any discussion of almost anything done by the Hillary Clinton campaign or said by her supporters.

There is excess on both sides. I support you for finding the use of "cult" in attacks as unworthy of any real discussion between democrats.

Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 11:24 AM by Kaylee
How do you defend your self against such a charge? Any attempt to say otherwise will only bring the response that you are brainwashed. I am almost sick to my stomach that we here on DU are furthering such insinuations.

As I said in another post, I have defended Senator Clinton passionately against those who bring up the tired meme that she is cold and calculating. When my own mother brought up this opinion about her, I politely reminded her that she was excited about meeting Hillary at a function during Bill's presidency and that she said nothing of the sort against Hillary until the MSM told her to feel this way.

Now we are going to encourage the MSM in the labeling of our other top candidate's supporters as crazed cultists. I wouldn't be surprised if this is how we will allow the GOP to defeat us....after all who would want to join a crazed cult or vote for a cold b*tch.

40. I love everything about this post!!
The song, the graphic... awesome!

As a Kucinich then Edwards supporter who voted for Edwards via absentee ONE DAY before he dropped out, I think there is plenty of weirdness in both camps of supporters and I'm oh, so happy NOT to be involved! For once! LOL! I've defended both Clinton and Obama in these our hallowed halls of DU, and almost every time I've been accused of being one of the freaky supporters of whichever candidate. It's hilarious!

Pardon my voyeurism!

I'll support whomever gets the nomination. I honestly don't see much difference between Clinton and Obama... or their supporters, quite frankly:)

Nothing left to do but throw out some smears and see what sticks.

This is an insult directed not at Obama, but at his supporters. I truly hope it blows up in their faces--it is divisive and insulting to fellow citizens.

33. Hillary supporters would rather see another election like
2000 or 2004

where they cannot win with not quite half the country voting for the dem candidate

Now that we have one that can sweep the country and win by a huge margin, they want to go back to the most ridiculed political candidate, the Clintons, since Nixon.

Good Grief, the loser mentality will be the death of this party. Hopefully, and it looks by the numbers they are the minority in the party,

34. I find the "cult" meme incredibly insulting.
For the first time in decades, the uninterested are motivated and involved and what do they face? Abuse. Apparently, if you don't support the "right" candidate, you're a cult. Fuck it. If she's the candidate I'm sitting this one out. Thanks for the lovely post.
