Malicious attacks against people who are seeking the Dem nomination: How to prevent them!

I am NOT asking for a change to the rules or to the way moderators enforce the rules. However, if we would like to see an end to malicious attacks against people who are seeking the Democratic nomination, then something must change.

If a DU member posts a malicious attack on someone who is seeking the Democratic nomination and no one responds, then that DU member is likely to either use a different posting style or go away.

If you are concerned that this Original Post is a personal attack on you, then please post in this thread or send me a Private Message to let me know. I might need to revise this OP while it is still possible to edit it.

1. That works for trolls, but not when you have two competing camps.

When you have a troll that is trying to disrupt an online community, sometimes you can just ignore his posts and eventually he will get bored and go somewhere where they give him the attention he wants.

But when you have two or more competing groups sharing the same messageboard, each member will respond and amplify the talking points of their group. If you don't speak up, your silence often begins to look like the board is in universal agreement about that talking point.

When someone says or does an attack I think is sheerly malicious, I have been calling them out in an assertive but nonpartisan way. I defend both Hillary and Obama, although I can't say it's been doing a lot of good. The tone here is nastier than ever, and will probably remain so through the primary season, and a little afterward. Still, it makes me feel good to stick up for doing the right thing.

2. Nice idea - but with the Obama folks (the "Clinton haters") it doesn't work - as with

many of the atheists on this board, if there is no push back it is taken as agreement - and they get to posting to each other saying how right they are. I more or less quit posting in the Religious forum for that reason - but as long as GD has others beside myself pushing back, I'll kept posting those annoying facts that suggest Clinton is not the devil and that Obama is as human as Bill or Hillary.

Could you POSSIBLY insult more people in your post? Disagreement with you lord high and mighty=being disruptive. I've actually defended Clinton (whom I dislike) agaisnt smears, but I don't broadbrush all Obama people or *other* groups in the process.

3. These attacks are making me ill...

I have been wavering back and forth in my support for both Hillary and Obama. I have defended Senator Clinton passionately against those who bring up the tired meme that she is cold and calculating. When my own mother brought up this opinion about her, I politely reminded her that she was excited about meeting Hillary at a function during Bill's presidency and that she said nothing of the sort against Hillary until the MSM told her to feel this way.

Now we are going to allow the labeling of our other top candidate's supporters as crazed cultists. How do you defend yourself against such a charge? Any attempt to say otherwise will only bring the response that you are brainwashed. I am almost sick to my stomach that we here on DU are furthering such insinuations.

I am worried that this is how we will allow the GOP to defeat us....after all who would want to join a crazed cult or vote for a cold b*tch.
