I just heard Joe Scarborough say on MSNBC
that "most Republicans quietly expect a landslide victory, and to re-take Congress and the Senate, and that John McCain will be standing there taking the oath of office." This as a result of Mitt dropping out, and the party getting behind McCain. Is he deluded or whistling in the dark????

1. I thought Joe hated McCain?
He's both...deluded and whistling in the dark.

2. He is talking what I have been trying to warn against. The fact that we
don't have anything close to a real candidate and (like it or not) Hillary a major force, is what will fuel a LATE surge by these guys.

7. Did I say I thought it wouldn't be a fight?
Of course it will. I'm questioning Joe's sanity, in particular about "landslide" and retaking both houses.

11. I agree completely
They took 45% of all votes cast in 2006, despite a perfect shitstorm of Abramoff, Iraq, Cunningham, Foley, Macaca, and whatever else happened that I've forgotten. If not for a mere few thousand votes, we wouldn't hold the Senate.

NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the human race.

Just imagine A McCain - Hillary matchup. The media whores would convince everyone that they're BOTH "too liberal" even though neither remotely fits that description.

They've probably planned every detail of this election based on Hillary being the nominee.

9. No, No, No. He said the EXACT OPPOSITE. Predicting a huge Repub rout ala 1974.
I just listened to it TWICE.

He said Romney hopes to be Reagan - who ran once, lost and came back down the road to win.

That's what he meant by "behind McCain".

I've got it on DVR. I'll type it up.

13. it's the start of the setup....
Talk up big GOP victories, even though the country is sick to death of their policies. The only way they can try to steal another election is to position McCain and his 100 year war as a 'winner' and that the GOP is on a comeback.

28. I think that is the plan...
I think they know that McCain is doomed and that they will lose ground in 2008...

They plan on obstructing the democrats in 2009 and winning back seats in 2010 setting themselves up for 2012...

They will then be rid of McCain...

Just like Dole...

20. Joe's every prediction has been WRONG so far.
It was not much more than two months ago that he was certain that Rudy would be the Republican nominee and go on to win the White House.

The day before Iowa he went on and on about how the one poll that predicted an Obama win was wrong because it over-polled first-time caucus goers.

He has been WRONG, WRONG, WRONG so far.

Just for kicks, here's an illustration of Joe from back in the day:

24. I think he's half right
most Republicans quietly expect a landslide victory.

Of course McCain will just be watching a Democratic President take the oath of office.

McCain is the this cycles Bob Dole. They have no real shot, give the nomination to the old guard.
The gold watch of the GOP

and then if McCain comes into office and the day he's inaugurated he captures Osama Bin Laden - we might see the affirmation of Rove saying the party will be in domination for many, many years to come.

Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 02:01 PM by in_cog_ni_to
and people had better wake up before it's too late. Obama will not win in a GE. They'll see him destroyed first. This is the repuke party we're talking about here. They're a bunch of racist freaks. They KNOW Hillary could beat McCain. She's been vetted. Obama...he's had a free ride. WHY? Who owns the MSM? CORPORATIONS. Who writes the talking head's paychecks? CORPORATIONS. Who thinks Democrats are bad for CORPORATIONS? CORPORATIONS do! Who has given a FREE RIDE to Obama since he entered the race? CORPORATE OWNED MSM. Who has spent month after month after month bashing Hillary? The CORPORATE OWNED MSM.

Obama doesn't have a chance in hell of winning against McCain. Joe's right. It's even more frightening that this is being whispered behind closed doors because it just confirmed the suspicions I've had all along.

33. Scarborough's Exact Quote - Here
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 02:31 PM by writes3000
"Now, he (Romney) knows what so many Republicans know and that is, there is a storm coming this fall (that) that Republicans haven't seen since 1974, the election that Republicans got routed by Democrats after Watergate. Most Republicans quietly expect a landslide not only in the Presidential race but also in the Senate and the House. He (Romney) believes that John McCain will be the one that will be there standing there, taking the responsibility since he's at the top of the ticket. And like Ronald Reagan, four years from now, he (Romney) will use this campaign to launch his next campaign...."

PS - I'm not slamming the OP here AT ALL. I just want us to appreciate the analysis which is optimistic for Dems.

34. Fair enough - I didn't hear the first part of the first sentence
which does change the meaning of what follows. But what's also true from most polling that I've read, is that either Obama or Clinton have the toughest battle against McCain versus any other Repub. So I'm not celebrating yet.
