Cher: "because of (CARTER's) inexperience they cut him off at the knees"
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 12:57 PM by UTUSN
It's on p. 3 of the link. I'm a sucker for believing Cher, like when she went on for 10 or 20 yrs telling us how controlling, devious, and dominating Sonny was and how liberated she was from him, but at his funeral she was a wreck about how much he meant to her. I swore then I wouldn't believe her again, but...

.... Cher on Politics

Cher has kept abreast of the political situation and has even picked a candidate.

"For me it's a no-brainer. It's Hillary (Clinton)," said Cher.

It's a departure from many of her Hollywood counterparts, who have backed Barack Obama.

"I am sure he's a wonderful person," she said. "But I had dinner once with someone in the White House. The first time he was in the White House, the first night of his presidency, and this man was a saint, and all he talked about was what he wanted to do for this country … and because of his inexperience they cut him off at the knees," Cher said of former President Jimmy Carter. ....

26. don't underestimate Cher. she's a shrewd cookie. If there are soldiers
out there getting better equipment and care, you can thank her. she used to privately visit the hospitals and when she saw what crap the equipment was, she took it public. She also worked to get the best helmets possible and get them to the troops. Cher is a smart lady who keeps up. I admire her a lot. Putting her down because she is a singer and has an opinion is absurd. Everyone of us has an opinion and last time I looked we were all entitled to it.

36. Cher puts her time, money and mouth into what she thinks is
serious. She went before congress to fight for our troops to get the right kind of helmets! Any of you do something as important as that? She watches every move these politicians make and is well informed.

5. well just consider
how much Cher has done for wounded Iraqi verterans over the past 5 years - look it up. She is more than just big hair and bad disco music. She has gone above and beyond what 99% of the celebrity endorsers have done. She has just done it under the radar and does not seek recognition for it.

Cher Soldiers On
By Barbara O'Dair
Cher donates her time and money for our troops.

In June, the singer and actress Cher flew to Washington to attend a hearing on helmet modifications for soldiers in Iraq. The 60-year-old entertainer has donated more than $130,000 to the group Operation Helmet, which pays about $100 to modify the inside of soldiers' helmets to make them better able to absorb shock from a bomb blast. In an interview on CBS last month, Cher said that she "was astounded at the price that could save someone's life." Furthermore, she says it makes her angry "when people say that if you're not for the war, you don't support the troops. And I'm not for the war. And I really support the troops."
Cher won a best-actress Oscar for her role in 1987's Moonstruck. As a singer she is best known for songs such as "Believe" and "If I Could Turn Back Time," throbbing disco-pop songs.

24. "If I could turn back time." should be the Clintons' theme song, rather than...
"Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow."

We can do better than to have a third term of their co-presidency.

4. barack obama talks about change ..
and the more i hear him, or read his words on being the candidate for change, the more it sounds to me like he will give us more of the same tired old salad bar of rhetoric bush has been serving us for the last seven/eight years.

and the more i hear him accuse hillary of being more of the same, the more i see her as the one change agent who will restore america on a track of hope for the future of our children, a track of job creation where people can breathe easy about putting food back on their tables, paying the mortgages, affording an education for themselves and/or their children ...

the more barack obama accuses hillary clinton of stagnation back to the past, the more i hear the wheels of change inside her promise of moving america back to a stable america.

hillary, promises to change america back to a stable america; mr. obama wants to move america towards the same stagnation we have experience in the last seven or eight years.

37. Obama's change is OPEN GOVERNMENT. Hillary's status quo is MORE PROTECTION for closed government
The Clintons protect the Bushes. They always have and always will. And it was that protection of BushInc throughout the 90s that led DIRECTLY to the restoration of Bushinc in 2000. They all should have been in jail not planning their return to the WH.

http://consortiumnews.com/2006/111106.html
Couldn't have happened without a Dem president cooperating to keep those books closed for the secrecy and privilege of the Bushes and their cronies.

with inexperience.

It has a lot more to do with george bush 1, Bill Clinton's partner in philanthropy, cutting a deal with the Iranians to keep the hostages under warps until Reagan was installed.

And it had a lot to do with the Saudis, george bush 1 and 2's good buddies, running up the price of oil.

I like Cher's acting, but i don't agree with her endorsement.

7. Well to be fair
Sonny was more like her father than her husband so of course she saw him (as any teenage girl does) as controlling, devious, and dominating.
Yes, she was a wreck at his funeral--I have no doubts that she loved Sonny, but not everyone we love is good for us. That is just life.

13. She's correct about what happened to Carter. And folks don't remember
his 50 State Campaign where he promised to visit every state and he did. His incredible MOM, Miss Lillian came by train to all kinds of out of the way places to greet folks... She was a Peace Corps volunteer in her 80's.

We all had such incredible hope for Carter after the Nixon Nightmare. He was an outsider...Peanut Farmer and a good moral man. The Media started trashing him and the minute he took the oath they went after him like they did Bill Clinton (the man who ran on being the "Man from Hope.")

Obama doesn't know what he's in for. And, folks who say they don't want to live through another Clinton nightmare because the RW & MS Media are already sharpening their knives...need to realize that Obama isn't going to know what hit him because they will come after him with cleavers. It will take him a year to get up to speed with cabinet appointments and just to find out where everything is and how much damage Bush/Cheney have done.

It's a hard choice because whomever we Dems get into the White House they will be gone after tooth and claw. But, it's harder on those who come in with "Hope for Change" when they find out they are tied up like Gulliver from the beginning.

51. Bill Clinton's experience was similar to Carter's
He had been governor of a small southern state. It wasn't the general background that did Carter in and caused Clinton to succeed. It was the times, or what was happening then, and a different set of evil bastards trying to set things up in their favor. Poppy is old now and the country is finally sick of Bushco, its cronies, and their shenanigans. If we haven't learned from that, and let it all happen again, that will be our downfall.

Carter was very conservative back then, and people like Kennedy and other Dems had a hard time opening his eyes to progressive solutions. Carter shifted left DURING his presidency, unlike Bill Clinton who was very submissive to the RW agenda and a protector of BushInc on all its criminal matters.
