Obama Camp: Clinton A 'Second Tier Candidate'
Obama Camp: Clinton A 'Second Tier Candidate'
Attack Follows Hillary's Request For Weekly Debates

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Is Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign in trouble? After giving herself a financial bailout, rumors swirled that her campaign was in distress.

After divulging she'd loaned her campaign $5 million of her own money, some pundits wondered whether that was part of a strategy to make people feel sorry for her and donate cash or if her camp was really in trouble.

Nobody seems to know for sure.

...

A spokesman for Obama told CBS 2's Political Reporter Marcia Kramer they think Clinton's debate demand is "a game you play when you're a second tier congressional candidate."

1. They didn't say that, but trying to force debates is exactly as that person said. NT

16. There are only two of them now,
so they have more time to discuss all the issues in their platforms. More debates would be great.

22. They had one debate with only two of them
Hillary won 60/40. Obama's aides figured out long ago that he sucked in debates and adopted a policy to limit his appearances in forums and debates.

20. Hillary is in no position to try to force anything. She is not the Boss.
If she really wanted debates she would arrange them in private.

Making a big public scene like they are doing now is strictly a political stunt designed to draw attention and make Obama look bad for not accepting.
Hillarites just want the opportunity to shout, "Coward!"

Really lame. Not the sign of a Winner.

11. It's deliberately misleading. It implies that's a direct quote and it is no such thing.
A spokesman for Obama told CBS 2's Political Reporter Marcia Kramer they think Clinton's debate demand is "a game you play when you're a second tier congressional candidate."

13. "When you NEED debates, you need HOPE of GOOD COVERAGE".. Bob Franken on
Hillary's demand for endless debate schedule. Everyone sees this for what it is.. desperation.

Obama's got control of the ball now. The Clinton Machine can only grind to a halt and whine.

24. Everyone does indeed see it for what it is.
Every time Hillary calls for a debate, everyone remembers that she opened up a big ol' can-o-whoop ass on Obama in the last one.

Every time Obama ducks a debate, everyone remembers that Hillary opened up a big' ol' can-o'-whoop ass on him in the last one. And if they think for a minute more, they remember those Present votes and his hiding out in the cloakroom for the Kyl-Lieberman vote.

Desperate like a fox, darlin'.

14. If the quote came from an official Obama spokesperson
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 06:56 PM by rocknation
rather than a "source" requesting anonymity, why not print his or her name? Shoddy journalism indeed.

18. You're wrong twice over
First, Bill Shaheen was not an official Obama spokesmen but his comments were used to villify Hillary.

Second, if the source is being listed as someone from Obama's campaign, and Obama doesn't dispute it, that that means it came from his camp. The name of the Obama official is irrelevant.

21. Exactly why I added "Shoddy journalism" to my post
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 07:38 PM by rocknation
Though no fault of the spokesperson, it gives the story a slimy sheen and turns it into a hit piece. That's the reporter's fault, not the source's.

P.S. I didn't say a word about Bill Shaheen, and neither did the story I was referring to.

15. Imagine if Hillary had said that about Barak. It would lead off the news for a week
The MSM would be hammerring her to death. She did get beaten up over a lot less, often based on misleading information. But Barak is allowed to get away with anything. The rules only apply if you're Hillary.

Don't you see the long odds he faces with a nearly 80-20 corporate media advantage?

27. Because he wasn't the "inevitable" one for over a year?
Because he doesn't have Bill Clinton to depend on to call in the "machine"?

Because he was double digits behind for the past year?

29. "Nobody seems to know for sure"
That seems to apply to the entire Clinton Empire, not just this one issue.

"How about we go into tell-the-truth mode ALL the time" -- John Edwards (paraphrased).

He said the debate ploy was a move on the level of a second tier congressional candidate.
