Lord, you can take me now. I have seen it all: OBAMA
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 09:38 PM by Omaha Steve

I was asked yesterday to help the Obama camp because I have a long history of being an active Democratic since grade school. I went door to door for Bobby when I was 11. I do get the feeling of being on the twilight of a new age for America. John Edwards just fell short. Say what you want about Obama voting present. Avoiding controversy when the battle is won or lost can be very smart. I do believe he knows what America needs and can get the job done. I don't want an administration tied to what Clinton came to represent. He couldn't get things done after behave. Four years of listening to conservatives fighting an old battle won't get anything done. I won't be back online probably until Saturday morning. I have to try to save a workers job tomorrow. He lost it at work today and threw a wrench at his boss after I had left early for the rally. I will be a labor leader for the caucus Saturday. I tell all around 2 PM. Douglas county will be done at noon, so we should know everything when I get back.

Edit: I forgot to mention all the good things Senator Obama said about the soon to be Sr. Senator Nelson. Somebody that can help him reach across the isle with.

Omaha Steve

4. Outstanding. It must be great being part of it all.
Being in IL - we don't get the full on excitement of being part of the ground game. I do plan on going door to door if we wins the nomination though.

18. I would love to. However...
I've have a business event to attend to the 16-22. I'm pretty sure that will make it impossible to help in the run-up. I also have little boys, so I'd like to work locally. I might do some phone banking though. My husband and I have been talking about ways to get involved - outside of just sending money (which we have and plan to again).

9. Oh Okay.
:eyes: How can an Edwards supporter turn into an Obama supporter? Mind boggling! And Edwards did not fall short. He was shut out. But you do know that, don't you?

11. Beats the FUCK out of me.
I wish I knew, because it's a disturbing trend.

I'd wager a guess that's it more about what they perceive Obama to represent, rather than the facts.

14. Edwards and Obama both have good Labor records.
I'll tell you exactly how / why a Labor based person could jump from Edwards to Obama. Obama had a lifetime COPE rating over 90% here in Illinois. I know several Labor folks who are in the same camp as Omaha Steve--including an Edwards delegate on a ballot this week.

Hil has a campaign manager that is not well liked in many union circles.

33. Yes, and her campaign manager has worked as a union buster.
You and I both know (I assume we've probably seen the same articles) that Labor talked to her very early on about her choice of high level campaign people. She has held on to Mark Penn in the face of those conversations and he really IS a slap in Labor's face. While I appreciate personal loyalty, you have to admit that it maybe is not a smart strategic move to piss off both money AND a ready made volunteer base when you are running in a race this size.

While I have no idea of Omaha Steve's attitudes about Nevada, I will also say that I know more than a couple union folks who were mighty unhappy with that whole mess with the Nevada Caucus. Similarly, Hil IS linked (rightly or wrongly) in a lot of people's minds with NAFTA. We all know how well THAT turned out for Labor.

I also would like to point out that Obama's COPE rating in the US Senate was 93 in 2006 with a lifetime COPE of 96. (That would be the National AFL-CIO, rather than just Illinois.)

Regards!

Laura

15. I supported Edwards. I now support Obama. I find it harder to wrap my
brain around an Edwards supporter having anything to do with Hillary. So both sides are well represented here. Please allow Steve his thread to share his news with his friends his without raining on it, thanks :-)

and recognize that most of what was said against Obama just wasn't true. It was campaign propaganda.

Edwards said it himself, Obama wants change.

30. Ask people what they remember about President Clinton's administration

Hillary fought for health care. The conservatives and lobbyists won. Then the Dems lost congress, things didn't get done. Then white water which was smoke. Then Monica, fire instead of smoke. Reps have years worth of old material to throw at Senator Clinton in a general election. The list of potential ammo on Senator Obama is very short. I've made my decision. Deal with it.

All that said Marta & I were very happy to see President Clinton in Dec. of 00. At that time we still didn't know who won Florida.

38. Some of don't want to throw fuel on the "Cult" controversy fire
But at times it does require great restraint.

I don't think the poster is loony and I think this is sincere, but the timing of a post like this praising Obama by saying "Lord you can take Me Now" while many Obama supporters are up in arms all over DU for being accused of acting like Obama is the second coming is, umm, let's just say ironic.

20. Luke 2:25-32
25Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,

28Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

29"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.

30For my eyes have seen your salvation,

31which you have prepared in the sight of all people,

32light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."

22. I'm on board with your point, but WOW those modern Bibles kill the poetry. Absoultely KILL it!
From the one you found:
"Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation ..."

From the KJV, where it lived in cultural consciousness for a good few centuries:
"Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy salvation..."

41. Cult?

I only joined the bandwagon in the last 10 days. If Obama is the nominee and kicks some but in the general, posts that some people take way to seriously will be forgotten. Dems fighting with Dems after we have a nominee will be forgotten. A few people that couldn't seem to understand tongue in cheek crap will be forgotten too. A lot don't matter to DUers now. Between trolls and drolls, this place ain't the fun it used to be. :-(
