It is time to stop being supporters of candidates and time to make candidates supporters of us.
While people sit here and engage in mindless bickering about Hillary and Obama our country is falling apart. We have a massacre going on in Iraq that has already killed hundreds of thousands, we have a criminal administration in power which has now admitted that they torture people, we have tens of millions without health care, we have global warming, we have people sleeping in the streets, and we have an economy which is going south and will soon force more people to sleep on the streets.

This is not about Hillary. This is not about Obama. This about the future of our nation, and I hate to break it to you but no matter who gets the nomination they are not going to be the savior of our nation. No single person can ever be our nation's savior, if we want to save this nation then we all have to stand up and fight.

Obama and Hillary have way more common than they have differences, and when we waste all our time fighting over two candidates that agree far more than they disagree then we are ignoring what is truly important.

This site was once a great place to come and read about the issues. This used to be a site in which people could come and learn about all the great things that were happening in the world as well as all the horrible things. This used to be a site where people could come and read a great rant that would motivate them to get out and do something. There was once a time in which the greatest page actually included some of the greatest discussion threads not just on DU, but on the entire Internet. There are still many great posts on this site, but they are getting buried beneath a giant pile of shit.

I am tired of hearing about how Hillary supporters or how Obama supporters have gotten so out of hand, the truth is that a good number of people on both sides of this battle have done nothing but divide DU and bring the quality of the posts on this site down dramatically. Many of our former greats have now left because people are absolutely sick of the mindless bickering that goes on around here.

While we sit and argue over two candidates that are very similar to one another, the Republicans have made up their mind on who are going to run and it just so happens that he is a candidate has benefited greatly from years of propaganda, and he is a candidate that is going to be difficult to beat no matter who gets the nomination. He is candidate many people view as an independent thinker, despite the fact that he has always been in Bush's corner when it mattered. We are going up against a very dangerous man, and yet I see far more threads of bickering about Clinton and Obama posted here every hour than I see threads taking down McCain in an entire week.

Yes it is important to debate our candidates, and yes we do need to see legitimate criticism of candidates from both parties posted here. The problem is that most of the attack threads posted here are either not legitimate critiques or say nothing that we haven't all heard hundreds of times before. And while these mindless attacks keep getting posted over and over we are seeing very little opposition research being posted on this site about McCain.

I want to start seeing more posts about how corrupt McCain is, I want to see more posts on how the Bush administration is destroying our democracy, I want to see more posts on poverty, I want to see more posts on the Iraq massacre, I want to see the posts that make DU proud. I want to see posts that will make the lurkers that check out our site leave feeling more educated, and I want to see people stop posting the threads that make us look like a bunch of bickering idiots.

This is not just about the future of DU, this is about the future of our nation. We need a unified opposition to fight the right-wing. It doesn't matter if we don't support the same candidates, if we support the same issues then we need to work for those issues. Let's work to stop the massacre in Iraq, let's work to end torture, let's work to end poverty, let's work to stop corporate greed, let's work to get health care for all, and let's work to unite as Americans to bring change to a nation that badly needs it. No President will bring us the change we need, if we want change we need to demand change from every candidate who runs for office. It is time to stop being supporters of candidates, and time to start making candidates supporters of us.
