Obamababies...how immature and insulting can you get to use this word?
Why do people feel the need to personally INSULT supporters of a candidate they disagree with?
This goes for people who say 'Hillbots' and that kind of garbage, it's absolutely no better, but 'Obamababies' I find insulting on so many levels.
You know what?
How does that even pass for acceptable political discourse in your book? Insult INDIVIDUAL IDIOTS if you feel you have to, but don't refer to everyone who support Hillary or Obama by an insulting nickname. It's dreadfully immature, it makes you look like an asshole, and it makes it impossible for many people to take you seriously, or want to listen to what you have to say.
If you insist in wallowing in immature insults, then go ahead, be my guests.
I'd really like to think most of us are above that, though.

6. "Typical playground bully tactics."
Lifted straight from Rove's playbook.

Same with the "cult" bullshit.

I dont know about any of you other Obama supporters, but I've had it with the Clinton supporters using slurs and going on about some cult crap.

43. Perhaps it is Obamas campaign staff telling volunteers to play up 'conversion' stories
..and play down policy....that has something to do with the cult talk?

What happens next? Loaves, fishes and baptisms?

A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_personality">cult of personality or personality cult arises when a country's leader uses mass media to create a larger-than-life public image through unquestioning flattery and praise.

9. yes, because most of Hillary's supporters are over 50
If no one over 50 had voted, this primary season would already be over. Obviously, not everyone over 50 is crabby, but let's face it, many over 50 are, especially when it comes to stepping aside when it's time for the next generation.

When young people look at Hillary, they see their grandmother. When they look at Obama, they see their dad, or see the dad they wish they had.

Some of us women around Hillary's age don't look up to her and can see right through her games.

20. congratulations!! like me, you're over 50 but still cool
You know what I'm saying is true, though. The only people I know who like Hillary are over 50 and have a crabby outlook. It's in full evidence here. All that vile bitterness and hatred! People who have had disappointing relationships with their children are far too bitter about the next generation. It's the main reason some of us are very optimistic, and some wear a permanent frown.

The hardest thing to do when you're riding high in your 50s is to recognize when it is time to hand over to younger people the reins of power and decision making. I'm ready to do that. These Obama kids have inspired me with their skills, which the Clinton camp isn't even aware of. The Obama kids have an entirely different campaign paradigm, one that is 2008. The Clintons are using a 1996 game plan.

40. oh I totally agree!
I admire all the older people who can recognize talent and brilliance and make room for it. Like Teddy Kennedy and Kerry--they see something in Obama that they know will be good for the country. They and others like them want what's good for America, first and foremost.

The Clintons don't get that they need to change, or maybe they just can't imagine any other way to do it after all these years. The kids don't respond to the same tactics the way their parents used to.

I suspect there are some older women who were in the first wave of feminism in the 60s who still carry a lot of bitterness and see themselves as women first, above all else, and just want a woman, any woman to become president, no matter how or why she was able to get there! Not me. A woman president still has to be the right woman for my vote.

31. look at their insults and the insults tell you about the person making them
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 12:37 AM by TexasObserver
Look at the common theme of the haters who attack Obama supporters here: they sound like Archie Bunker railing at Meathead.

They presume Obama supporters to be (1) young, (2) uninformed, (3) gullible, and (4) unaware.

Now if that doesn't sound like a cranky old person talking about them young whippersnappers, what does?

Some of us over 50 are quite comfortable with younger leaders coming online. Anyone in their 50s or 60s who can't acknowledge they had better acuity and stamina in their 30s and 40s just isn't being truthful.

7. Do you ever feel like
you are farting in a whirlwind? There's so much immaturity and general assholery going on here, and some of us protest vehemently about it, and it has no effect at all. I don't know if they know they're assholes and like being that way, or if they don't think any of this applies to them, like "I'm just a passionate supporter of my candidate and I have to defend him/her from the vile slanders of the other candidate who is pure evil and eats puppies for breakfast."

I'm beginning to think it's hopeless. I think the mods should issue special passwords for GD-P and only let the people who get off on insulting each other get access to it. All obnoxious posts would be moved there instantly, and they can just eat each other alive to their hearts' content. And the forum would be completely invisible to normal DUers.

17. I'm not one to be overly PC, but think it might be too reminiscent of the worst use of "tarbaby".
Romney Apologizes For 'Tar Baby'

"The best thing politically would be to stay as far away from that tar baby as I can," he told a crowd of about 100 supporters in Ames, Iowa.

Black leaders were outraged at his use of the term, which dates to the 19th century Uncle Remus stories by journalist Joel Chandler Harris. The term refers to a doll made of tar that traps Br'er Rabbit, the main characters in the series of stories. It has come to be known as a way of describing a sticky mess — and has been used as a derogatory term for a black person.

"Tar baby is a totally inappropriate phrase in the 21st century," said Larry Jones, a black Republican and civil rights activist.

"He thinks he's presidential timber," Jones said. "But all he's shown us is arrogance."
