TIME Poll: Clinton More Beatable than Obama
Thursday, Feb. 07, 2008 By MICHAEL DUFFY/WASHINGTON

Though the real election is nine months away, Sen. Barack Obama would fare slightly better than Sen. Hillary Clinton in a head to head match-up with Sen. John McCain if the general election were held today, a new TIME poll reveals.

Obama captured 48% of the vote in the theoretical match-up against McCain's 41%, the TIME poll reported, while Clinton and McCain would deadlock at 46% of the vote each. Put another way, McCain looks at the moment to have a narrowly better chance of beating the New York Senator than he does the relative newcomer from Illinois.

The difference, says Mark Schulman, CEO of Abt SRBI, which conducted the poll for TIME, is that "independents tilt toward McCain when he is matched up against Clinton But they tilt toward Obama when he is matched up against the Illinois Senator." Independents, added Schulman, "are a key battleground."

I don't want another nail-biter election. This may sound harsh, but it's necessary to say: Democrats voting for Clinton are undermining our chances at winning back the White House. It has to be said, and it's a reality needs to be faced.

If Clinton partisans think they have the stronger candidate, they need to lay off the kool-aid.

1. This is about the 20th posting of this news
I know you guys are happy, and you like to gloat, but this is getting spam-like.

Write something new. Tell us how Hillary designed the Edsel or something.

8. Indeed
There have been close to 25 "I'm proud I'm an Obama cult member" sarcasm threads today.

The poll, and the cult criticism, are worth discussing. Just not fifty times.

12. Zogby had nothing to do with this poll. All polls are accurate only in that moment in time
and only if it is done correctly

9. Ha
I remember the seventeen point lead President Dukakis had coming out of the 1988 Democratic Convention in Atlanta and how he went on to defeat George Herbert Walker Bush by one of the most lopsided margins in electoral history...

11. You have a point, but the Clinton supporters do a similar thing with their polls

As long as each side don't resort to personal attacks on each other, there is no harm in it

Like Edwards said, the Democrats will make history no matter who the nominee is

14. Agreed, but Hillary's supporters were acting like they were, when the polls favored them
nationally

Each side is pumping. Right now Barrack supporters are doing it

In an hour Hillary's supporters will do there thing

and it will go back and forth like this until the primaries are over

It won't change anyone's mind either

15. If Either Had A Seven Point Lead In October I'd Be Pushing It Hard
A two to six point lead now doesn't indicate anything...

I saw Mike Dukakis turn a seventeen point lead into a eight point defecit and I saw Jimmy Carter turn a thirty three point lead against Gerald Ford into a two point one...

16. Of course you would, but even polls conducted a few days before a primary
have been proven wrong, and I am not just referring to zogby polls

18. Primary Polls Are A Different Animal
The final round of pre-election presidential polls are usually well within the margin of error...

I just don't see the predictive value of a poll in February for an election in November...

Amazing - and it's taken seriously, even though the numbers are already leaning toward the Dems more since the last one of these supposed matchup total bullshit polls that have zero, none, no meaning. Zilch.
