Fans see something special in Obama
BY ELIZABETH AHLIN
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

For hundreds of Barack Obama fans, Thursday was a day filled with hours of waiting, hours of standing — first outside in the cold, then inside Omaha's Civic Auditorium.

When Obama finished speaking at 6:45 p.m., Patique Collins had spent at least six hours on her feet. But it was worth every uncomfortable minute, she said.

Obama's 45-minute speech touched on his trademark themes — hope and change — and many of those gathered said that is exactly why they are drawn to him.

The crowd spanned different ages, races and economic backgrounds. People in fur coats and zip-up hoodies smiled and said they wanted the same things — hope, change, something new.

It's not that they don't like Hillary Clinton, many said. Clinton, in a tight race with Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, would be a fine president, they said. But they see something special in Obama.

"I think he stands for change, which is what we need most," said Adam Deville, 19, of Omaha.

2. Excellent!
"For Collins, it was the end of an amazing day that started when she drove up to the auditorium and saw people already in line. She looked at their faces, young and old, black and white, and she got a little emotional. This is a candidate who can bring people together, Collins said."

5. "FANS" are correct. They heard the lemming call
too weak and stupid to have a mind of their own. Else why do they follow the stars, celebs and sport stars and give them life to them. When something new comes along they all jump up and follow them. They have no minds of their own and follow right along behind the one out in front.

I guess the guy who took the survey about the republicans didn't get to do one of the star struck people in this country. They are worst. I wish the old Pied Piper would blow that whistle louder and they all follow him right off the main cliff.

13. So why you got to go insult us personally? Calling us stupid? Attack Obama, not his supporters.

15. I love how all these barbs...
have come back and bit the Clinton campaign in the ass. Degrading the American people, to win an election, isn't working.

16. The final quote says it all for me:
"It's the first time in a long time when people don't feel they have to go to the polls and vote for the lesser of two evils," Smith said. "I believe that he will unite this nation."
