O-mericans!! Represent for Obama!! Here's a name for us!
O-mericans are black, white, brown, red, yellow, and shades in between.

O-mericans are native born, foreign born, and homegrown.

O-mericans speak English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Farsi, Yiddish, or Japanese.

O-mericans don't hate other cultures, other countries, other ways of seeing the world.

O-mericans are optimistic.

O-mericans believe YES WE CAN!!

O-mericans believe in the politics of inclusion.

O-mericans are gay, straight, bi, or transgendered.

and so Our Savior brought them to the table.

It's really a disgrace how Christian fundamentalists have been kept away from the table in this country.

And will not diminish it. I see it as a smaller, less significant event than you. We don't see eye to eye on this, but that's the way it goes.

You speak for yourself, of course, in your opinion on the topic.

Sorry you don't share the excitement. I've been working Democratic campaigns for almost 40 years, and really good candidates don't come along that often.

Really
One of my friends (who is a lesbian) is planning on sitting home (!) if Obama gets the nomination. OMG, I keep trying to convince her otherwise, but she's incensed.

I live in a gay-friendly town, and there are "Hillary" signs all around for this reason.

Obama has apparently upset a lot of members of the Gay community.

As a secularist, I'm none-too-thrilled with some of the Obama rhetoric, myself. Still, I am committed to voting for the nominee. Plus, I loathe McCain. (Always have.)

35. I understand that there are grievances
Some have with the Obama campaign and some of the associations that have been on the fringe of the campaign in places. If I thought they were in any way representative of Obama or his campaign, I would be concerned. But I have been watching these two principals their entire careers, and there's no question to me that the seedy associations of Camp Clinton are much more troubling.

36. Words spoken by Mr. Obama
And not taken back...he only wants to change unhappy gays (paraphrase)...resonate through my head.

Do we change unhappy Blacks?

Do we change unhappy Latino?

And allowing the "fringe" element to be given the stage and harangue gays? No thank you, Mr. Obama. You will not get my vote. (Oddly enough Hilary won't, either...)

if he can't, that's the way it is sometimes

I don't ask anyone to vote a way they really have a problem, because to do so is to say your own personal viewpoint is not valid. We disagree, but I can understand where you're coming from.

Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 11:35 AM by TexasObserver
And I don't expect to change anyone's mind. I have a very simple philosophy: each person exclusively owns their own vote. It doesn't matter if their reason for voting or not voting is one I understand. I don't understand how anyone can put broccoli in their mouth, but I know people who seem to love it. I've never once tried to talk someone out of it by saying "but I hate broccoli!!"

Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 12:47 PM by TexasObserver
She's over 60, been a relationship for 25 years.

It's an individual decision, who to back, and I don't find among the gay community the same memes floated here in an attempt to advance Hillary and disparage Obama. In fact, the vile things said here about Obama are almost unique to this board. There are maybe a hundred hostiles who try to say as many negative things daily about Obama as they can. It's not working. In fact, it's backfired. All it does is motivate the Obama fans, who have far superior numbers and actually get out and make a difference in caucuses and elections.

Yes, I'm aware. I have been homebound for over a week now with some medical issues that aren't relevant to our discussion but will keep me from participating in events any time soon.

Good luck with the events. I'll be following them from a distance and getting reports from my kids, who will be at events in Houston and Austin.
