Edwards Endorses Obama
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/annapolis/2008/02/edwards_endorses_obama_too.html?nav=rss_blog

"Late this afternoon, congressional candidate Donna F. Edwards endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Il.) for president, referring to him as a "fellow agent of change."

Edwards' endorsement comes almost a month after her opponent U.S. Rep. Albert R. Wynn (D-Md.) announced his support for Obama. The two are locked in a heated battle for the Democratic nomination in Maryland's fourth congressional district, which includes parts of Montgomery and Prince George's County.

Potentially huge turnout is expected in the district on primary day, in part sparked by excitement over Obama in the heavily African-American district. Edwards' endorsement could blunt the impact of Wynn's own endorsement, preventing him from portraying himself as the only candidate in the race supporting the popular senator. Just yesterday, Wynn predicted the heavy turnout in the race would help his reelection effort.

Edwards' today suggested Obama's message and her own naturally dovetail. "Whether you choose to call it the Chesapeake primary or the Potomac Primary, it is undeniable that voters have an extraordinary opportunity to participate in the tidal wave of change that is sweeping the country and will crest right here in the fourth district on February 12th," she said in a statement."

I hope all the candidates throwing around propaganda about "change" mean POSITIVE change towards social and economic justice, and that there will be vigorous positive ACTION for change, as well as rhetoric.

From my perspective, positive "change" includes:

hand-counted, paper ballots

100% public financing of elections, banning of all polling, and enforced equal air time

universal, single-payer, NOT-FOR-PROFIT healthcare

universal public pre-school - college or trade school

The end of NAFTA/CAFTA

The end of NCLB

The end of the Patriot Acts

The end of war as an instrument of international policy, and the bullshit "war on terror."

The end of corporate personhood and corporate influence in government

A living wage

A stronger, wider, deeper separation between church and state

A vigorously protected and defended Constitution

The right to privacy

The end of privatization, and the re-regulation of everything that's been privatized since the Reagan administration.

3. Eastern Kansas Caucus > We talked about this while we were waiting on the
registrations and signing the district lists. There were about 2000 of us a place big enough for 200. Obama people were sitting all around the Edwards supporters, so we talked and agreed that several Edwards supporters were going to go to Obama on the second round and call for an Obama / Edwards ticket, which prospect more than just a few Obama and Edwards folks were ***very*** enthusiastic. We didn't actually get to say this to the group, because we had to go outside into winter weather from the NW, rain, misty, sleet, snow and cold, without at public address system, for 2-3 hours. The short of it: we didn't get to announce our decision to the whole group. : - (
