not a cult, a CURE.
to think that the political disaster of the last 8 years has not produced real psychological wounds would be insane. look around. the fear that has run rampant, and the psy-ops that have been run, have left very real pain for many of us on both sides of the aisle. to say nothing of the actual killed and wounded, not just of our troops, but of the growing number of real political prisoners, from jose padilla to don seigelman, and to those we do not know about. anyone who is paying attention has paid a price. anyone who is paying attention is longing for some sort of balm.
i think that it is this desire for some healing that is moving people to barack obama. to define it as sick for people to want to change this nightmare is a very cruel lie. to demean the tears of those who listen to barack's speeches and hope for it all to end is about as cruel a thing as i have seen in my 50+ years. to denigrate those of us who cross their fingers but believe, in order to install 8 more years of pretty much the same shit is as big a crime as i have seen since 2000.
take heart obamanation. there is nothing wrong with you. there is nothing wrong with coming together for a better world. it is those that do not see the status quo as a crime that are sick.

2. "Cult" is being used to attack Obama's Swelling Support
it's exactly why they need to mischaracterize his support as something negative. They are attacking his strength, which is very Rovian. Take it as a sign of fear and throw it back them. I can't stand the Hillary supporters here. They all sound like the juvenile Republicans that supported Bush when Kerry ran against him.

"Cultists"? Durrrrrrr.... Goofey crap from dorks.

3. I'll happily vote for Obama if he's the nominee. But how is what you've said in your OP different
than what we hear every day from zealots of other strips, ranging from any of the zealots from whom we hear daily: Republicans, extremist Christians, extremist atheists, Scientologists, et al. I'd say the same thing to a Clinton supporter who framed an OP in the same insulting way. _All_ zealots question our ability to think or ourselves, our ability to "pay attention" and the genuineness of our allegiance to higher aims.

Before you flip out, please exercise your search feature and take note that I've never _once_ denigrated Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton or any other Democrat. I've understood from the beginning that I'd likely be casting my vote for him or Sen. Clinton in the GE. I just want both camps to know that you gain absolutely NO GROUND or credibility on behalf of your candidate by posting passive-aggressive (and mostly aggressive) stuff on DU to beat up the opposing candidate.

Wanna win hearts and minds, friends? Then demonstrate that you have some of either or both, regardless of who your candidate is.

:rant off:

5. he is different because-
i am from illinois. i have seen him at work. i have talked to a lot of people who worked with him back in springfield. his supporters around here are the kind of dems you only get to have in a really blue place, real progressives. his voting record on progressive issues is damn near perfect.
i met him briefly in '04. he won by helping other dem candidates as much as anything he did for himself. he continues to do that to this day. in the last 4 years he was the #1 requested stump speaker for the democratic party. and he went as often as he could. and he helped quite a few dems get elected. someone who wins by helping others, by working together. rubber, meet road.

9. Rubber, meet the world outside of Illinois.

I was born in Arkansas and raised in Oklahoma, very close to Clinton's gubernatorial machine and rise to the presidency. But there's a big world outside of Arkansas and Oklahoma, and as much as I'll have to hold my nose to vote for Sen. Clinton, I think her supporters understand this salient fact. :hi:

4. Yeah, he's such a healer!! Does he lay on hands? Please. Jesus, he ain't.
I doubt Jesus would have disciples that tell people they can pray away their gay.

7. i'm a devout atheist myself.
but jesus still seems to have a lot of followers who believe a lot of crazy shit. if you are going be president of the united states, you are going to have to work with all kinds of people. what stuns me about some here is their absolute inability to see how this kind of hatred is leaving "us" as played as "them". divide and conquer is the oldest, easiest political game there is. and here we are still playing it.

13. Yep, and one of them is named McClurkin, and he's touting a line of bullshit
for his preferred candidate.

People who are scared of the fighting here need to grow up. Refusing to confront legitimate, tough issues--like the fact that most Obama supporters do not know SHIT about how he comes down on the issues, because he isn't saying--isn't harmful in any way.

This shit makes us stronger. Once you beat back every attack, there's nothing that phases one.
And that goes for whoever gets the nomination.

14. ONE supporter. ONE
whose views have been thoroughly repudiated, repeatedly. and a voting record that is clear. i don't know how you can say this hasn't been confronted. i really don't.
i'm not scared of anything. i am just tired of bullshit.
and he is saying. look it up. he has detailed positions on his website, and he has a 12 year voting history, both here in illinois, where politics ain't beanbag, and in dc. and a long history of using his coattails to help other dems.

15. But see--that is NOT true. Haven't you been paying attention?
Bush's "favorite black pastor"--an asshole by the name of Kirbyjon CALDWELL-- who is also a Pray Away The Gay type, was not only AT that stupid South Carolina Revival Bullshit fest, but he's also FORMALLY joined the Obama Nation.

And now, Obama doesn't want to be "tainted" with the "stink" of having his picture taken with the gay-loving Mayor Gavin Newsom?

Come on.

Once is a mistake. Twice is a concern. Three times is a fucking PATTERN.

I am not gay, but I have a gay friend or three, and a few gay relatives, like most people do. I don't think my friends and relatives are expendable to smooth Obama's selfish path to power.

I find Obama's willingness to throw them under the bus by talking out both sides of his mouth a serious character flaw. He's DISHONEST, because he suggests to one group that he "feels" one way, and signals to another group that he has entirely different views. He says one thing to one group, and another thing to another.

You can't please everyone, and if you don't stand up for what you believe in, you're a chickenshit. He comes off like a chickenshit on this issue, and leaves me unimpressed.

If he's "afraid" of gays, how is he gonna handle Putin and Ahmadinejad?

6. Deriding Democrats and reaching out to Repugs isn't the answer...
that's just more division "cloaked" in unity.

8. who is deriding whom?
i guess is the question. reaching out is only division if people continue to deny the humanity of people who disagree with us. i just don't see the progress possible under that scenario. fortunately, a lot of people are beginning to see the game for what it is.
