Poll: Utahns overwhelmingly prefer Obama to Hillary ...
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 01:57 PM by Alhena
no, we're not going to win Utah even with Obama, but this poll serves as yet additional proof that Obama has far more ability to reach across the aisle and pick up votes than Hillary.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695251420,00.html

With "favorite son" Mitt Romney no longer an option, who will Utahns vote for in November?
Only 30 percent of Utahns polled in a new Deseret Morning News/KSL-TV survey Thursday said they'd vote for the presumptive Republican nominee for president, Arizona Sen. John McCain.

And nearly as many, 25 percent, said they would cast their ballot for a Democrat, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Eleven percent said their choice was another Democrat, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton

3. Did you even read the article? Thats not the point
The point is crossover appeal in states we do have a chance in.

5. Yes, it does mean something- in other states ...
as I stated, we will not win Utah. But Obama getting much more than twice as many supporters in a conservative state like Utah is evidence, as if any more were needed, that he has greater crossover appeal.

6. Did the caucus results also mean nothing?
Because they are also in agreement.

12. Do you understand how politics works? That's because they're still pissed at McCain...THIS WEEK.
One snapshot poll does not an election make.

They'll get over that, once the Orrin Hatches and others step forward and tell their followers that McCain will sensitize himself to a pet cause or three. Or, when McCain accomodates Romney in some fashion, by giving him an important cabinet post, an Ambassadorship or even the Vice Presidential slot on the ticket, and Romney signals to his crew that it is "OK" to vote for McCain.

Give it a few weeks, that five percent is gonna turn into fifty percent. Or more.

Here's the bottom line--if Jesus H. Fucking Christ tops the Dem ticket, the GOP is STILL going to win Utah.

They just roll that way.

14. And do you understand how many Utahns HATE Huckabee?
They HATE, HATE, HATE Huckabee more than any person I've ever seen. They hate Huckabee more than Clinton. They hate Huckabee more than Ted Kennedy. THEY HATE HIM. If he's anywhere near the Republican ticket, Utahns will be hard pressed to support him.

I have never, in the 23 years I've lived in Utah, seen such a hatred for one person in my life. They despise the thought of Huckabee and it's it McCain/Huckabee, Obama will put Utah into play. He may not win it, but it'll be within 10. Mark it down, bookmark this thread and you'll see come November I am right.

17. Because of his attacks on the LDS Church.
He's slammed the Mormon faith ever since he began running, which really pissed Mormons off. It wasn't subtle, either. Plus he and McCain have sent out robo calls to California voters saying Romney believed in a false God.

18. Why are you assuming Huckie is it? McCain is coming into some STRONG states, and he is
already halfway to the nomination. He's GOT the nom. And everyone LOVES a winner. Even George Bush is on the McCain bandwagon.

Every day that passes, Huckie is LESS of a factor. Huck could end up with a promise of a sweet cabinet post, which would obviate the requirement to give him the VP slot. As time goes on, McCain becomes INEVITABLE...and the GOP will vote for Mister Inevitable, because they want to be on the winning team.

And they'll vote for him in the general, too. No matter what.

What if Mitt ends up on the ticket? Or is accomodated in some other fashion, hmmm?

You don't think McCain is gonna make peace with the guy? Of COURSE he is. To do otherwise is idiotic.

Give the GOP credit for basic intelligence while you're doing your "figuring."

And you honestly think that if ORRIN says "Hold your nose and vote for McCain" that the "undecided thirty percent" in that absurd little poll won't roll over and do as they are told? And the "McCain haters" won't do the same, because "Orrin Knows Best?"

Once more--If GOD ALMIGHTY tops the Dems ticket, and Jesus H. Christ ON a Bicycle runs as his VP, Utah is STILL going to go GOP.

No matter how "pissed" people are...this WEEK.

21. If it's McCain/Romney, they'll easily win Utah.
If it's McCain/Huckabee, they very well could win Utah, but it will be close.

I think it'll either be Huckabee or Giuliani. Romney won't accept the 2nd spot, knowing it very well could go down to defeat in November. Huckabee can shore up their base.

22. There is a rumor going around MASS that they're talking about that possibility.
Kerry Healey, Mittsy's former ex-LTGOV, fell all over herself on NECN trying to NOT tip her hand. His spokesman did the same.

They're talking, certainly. He'll get something for his trouble.

8. Obama may not win Utah, but he could put it in play...
Which would mean the GOP would have to pump money into it and that will ultimately hurt their national campaign.

IF McCain picks Huckabee, Utahns will be hard pressed to vote for that ticket.
