I don't know if that was the highest approval leaving office ever but it might be Bill Clinton's.

I'm all for unity so I'm voting for the team with a proven record for it.

2. Exactly
I'm starting to get the feeling that all the Clinton bashers are 18 year olds and their only memory of the days when Clinton was in office was what time Thomas the Train was coming on TV.

3. Remember that approval rating was in spite of the constant
attacks from the right wing and their "Contract ON America"

8. It didn't FEEL like unity, even with those ratings
And no, I wasn't watching Thomas the Tank Engine during the '90s. I supported Clinton but during his final years in office, I wasn't wearing that on my sleeve because there were plenty of people around me who weren't that fond of him. (And I lived in Los Angeles and NYC during that time, not exactly the Bible Belt.)

We have to move on ... As they say, "you can't go home again" ... and even if we do put another Clinton in the White House, it won't be the same (and it might be even MORE polarizing because this time it's a woman).

13. The ECONOMY is what kept his ratings high -- not his personal popularity
Plenty of Rethugs were satisfied with their own circumstances and were willing to give him a pass (or at least not a failing grade). With the economy headed into the toilet, things will be different this time around.

14. its horrible that people would judge a president based on economic conditions
rather than his personal behavior....just horrible. What ever were they thinking?

I certainly hope you aren't criticizing chimpy for the state of the economy. That would be so wrong.

:sarcasm:

15. I'm just warning people that just because Bill's ratings were high
doesn't mean Hillary's will be as well. The Clinton name comes with built-in animosity even in the best of times and if she's elected in this economic climate, the RW isn't going to give her an inch.

20. I'll jump in here with a link. As you'll see, its a mixed bag
Overall favorability: 65 percent.
Rating on foreign affairs and economy: in the 70s
Rating on personal characteristics (honesty, etc): not so good.

But overall, he went out with a very high favorability rating.

19. We were defending him as the "victim" of an absurd impeachment process. Been there, done that!
No more defending the Clintons!

Is this what we as Democrats really want? Four more years of defending the Clintons against the inevitable Republican attacks?

21. Ah, but will you pledge that unity to Obama if he gets the nomination
Or will you stay home and sit it out this fall? You were threatening that the other day, yet here you are trying to preach unity:eyes:
