Suspended seems a little harsh.

He should have been called into the big guys office and gotten yelled at.
No more, no less.

6. Imus had a history of doing that sort of thing. He'd been fired from other
stations and reprimanded a number of times. Shuster has no such history.

9. The thing with Imus - is that story had legs, and
Imus has been accused of being a racist in the past.

I think with Imus it was the icing on the cake.

Personally, I think it was the advertisers refusing to advertise on his show that did him in.

because he was on Tucker's show. I doubt that he would have made such a comment on KO, but I could be wrong.

4. A suspension
may cause others to think before they speak. I don't think it's out of line. I guess it depends on how long the suspension is for.

But in general, such vile comments should have consequences.

29. Don't forget... He spend MORE time praising Chelsea before he made the comment.
He should have chosen his words better, but let's not pretend this was some kind of hit job on Chelsea.

I pity the reporter that reports anything bad about Hillary's wars and policies.

12. I agree also
I dont like it when politicians (or their campaigns) attempt to intimidate news people.

It smacks of the same tactics the Bush administration used to prevent any honest discussions about the war before they invaded Iraq.

36. That's not a personal attack, it's a general statement.
If you ask me, using the word "pimp" is just not okay in news reporting. I don't care who why are referring to. It's an ugly word and it has an associated meaning that is not part of the news cycle.

if there was a draft then it would be valid

However, volunteer Army or not, we should not be sacrificing them for this

18. When I think of all the hours of air time...
..all the hours of analysis, I can't imagine someone not screwing up and saying something they'll regret. I think a reprimand is warranted. But now that he apologized and has been embarrased by the corporation apologizing for his remarks--it is enough. He is one of the better people on cable news and I hate to see him off the air.

The extent of the power of the Clintons really disturbs me...

Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 05:52 PM by Marie26
"I didn't think people would take it literally... to the extent that some people might find it pejorative, I apologize"

It's: "I'm sorry you people were offended & totally misunderstood," with three or four qualifiers thrown in. He also prefaced his remarks by calling the apology a bit of house cleaning. Maybe it sounds better in the video, I haven't seen it.

The fact is that he went on and on about how proud Hillary and Bill should be for raising such an intelligent well mannered.... young lady.

Yeah, he should have used another phrase, but we all KNOW what he was getting at. Let's not pretend we don't.

use of the word "pimped" and MSNBC thought it was more appropriate to suspend him. I personally think it was a stupid thing for him to say and he really should know better but I don't think he should get fired for it. The fact that MSNBC has him going on the air and apologizing (twice I believe) means that they will bring him back at some point otherwise the man would have already been fired. It was the right thing for MSNBC to have David Shuster apologize.
