MD POLL: Obama 52, Hillary 33. Nearly tied among white voters but Obama wins African-Americans 4:1.
Maryland Democratic Primary: White Voters Split, Black Voters Propel Obama to Strong Advantage - In a Democratic Primary in Maryland today, 4 days to the vote, Barack Obama defeats Hillary Clinton, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WJLA-TV Washington DC. White voters split, 42% for Clinton, 40% for Obama. But Obama leads 4:1 among African Americans. When all likely voters are combined, it's 52% Obama, 33% Clinton. In the city of Baltimore, Obama leads by 31. In the Baltimore suburbs, Obama leads by 8. In the rest of Maryland, Obama leads by 23. Among seniors, Clinton leads by 15 points. But Obama leads among voters under age 65, including a 39-point advantage among voters age 35 to 49. If younger voters do not vote in the numbers here forecast, Obama's margin is overstated. At stake is a larger share of Maryland's 99 proportionally allocated delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

Filtering: 1,700 state of Maryland adults were interviewed 02/07/08 and 02/08/08. Of them, 1,527 were registered to vote. Of them, 737 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 02/12/08 Maryland Democratic Primary.

5. I wouldn't rule out a couple of double digit losses for Hilary over the next week
Washington, Louisana, Maryland and Virginia could all go decisively Obama.

3. Well, looks like reinstituting segregation was a good idea then, huh?
For what it's worth, I'm going to keep on thinking of them as Americans. But please, enjoy your sheetwork.

7. The OP mentioned Marylanders only as being white or black
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 07:27 PM by Bucky
My point was they're all Americans and treating them like two separate groups is fallacious and part of the ugly parts of American history. Re-read the OP headline (carefully this time). I didn't single out white people -- the OP did and then you for some reason seem to think that I did, too.

Nothing I posted in any way suggests that I was segregating them. My complaint was entirely anti-segregationist.

As are most of my dem friends. Several independents (who can't vote in the primary) I know like him a lot too.

I'm not convinced he's going to do so well in Va though. Northern Va yes...but outside of that, the dems in that state are pretty conservative.

11. He'll take Baltimore...that's for damn sure...
I'm originally from Maryland (living in North Carolina now). If Obama takes Maryland...he takes D.C. too. Looking at the Virginia polls...Tuesday is looking good for Obama.

But Obama will win in Anne Arundel County (more upper-middle class I think...latte people lol) and Prince George's County (predominently Black and very wealthy...more latte people lol).

20. I'm voting for Obama in Maryland
We have 8 people in my group at work 3 Republicans and 5 Democrats. One Republican is voting McCain, the other Republican who lives in Nothern VA is voting for OBAMA, and the other (evangelical) Republican is not even paying attention (he is not voting in the primaries and he dislikes McCain).

The Democrats (including myself) are voting for Obama 4:1.
