NOT ONE THREAD IN THIS FORUM ABOUT ANY REAL ISSUES
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 07:23 PM by Beaverhausen
Yes, I'm yelling.

Come on people, we are better than this.

Millions of americans will go to sleep hungry tonight, many in their cars or on the street.

Isn't that a bit more important than the crap being argued about here?

17. see the post below about the poster trying to start issue-oriented threads
and no one responding.

The point is, why aren't we discussing issues? If this primary is about voting for who we want to lead this country, aren't their stands on the issues worth discussion?

It's about health care, and I asked for specifics. Sank like a stone with NO responses. I guess the rabid supporters of Clinton and Obama are all hot air with no substance.

I posted a very similar one last week and got nothing (see my jounal, if you are interested). I would love to see a real discussion about healthcare that went a little deeper than the taglines being used these days.

I have also tried to post some issues. It seems that those that want to stay in the fight just scan all the new posts and rapidly recommend any that add fuel to the fire, ignoring the rest. I wish we had a do not recommend button.

Are you new to this board or something. DU is not "better than this." This is the essence of DU. One in twenty even has the faintest notion of how policy is implemented. It's all about petty campaign arguments and counter-arguments, all day everyday. Don't mistake this for a policy board. It's not.

I learn a lot from the posters here on all sorts of topics. There are tons of well-informed and extremely involved people posting here.

Maybe my memory is short as far as the 2004 primary is concerned. I honestly think that what I consider to be more politically-aware people (members of DU) should have better things to talk about.

But I guess I'm giving some people here too much credit.

37. Every post about substantive issues sinks to the bottom.
Posts analyzing voting trends, foreign policy, specific bills in Congress the candidates advocate, plans to combat poverty (or lack thereof)... it all sinks like a rock.

We've become a bit like the Jerry Springer show of the left blogosphere.

47. When the "my candidate can beat up your candidate" and the
"my candidate is prettier (smarter, more experienced, ...etc) than your candidate" threads started, all the reasonable (cynical) people vacated GD:P posthaste. Some of you more hopeful types, with more faith in your fellow man, stuck around.

As for the sheep. Sheep are sheep. Just because they call themselves Democrats doesn't automatically instill intelligence, critical thought, curiosity or even a desire to understand complex problems, much less seeking effective ways to solve them.

They would rather join the cult of personality (on all counts) and bask in the puppy pile glow of rolling around in the muck of their fellow revelers and joiners. If Britteny were running, they'd be just as happy.....actually they would probably be happier, because then nobody would be asking them hard question about that policy stuff or those what'zitt things...you know...platforms???? OMG....

Some of us ARE better than this. Some of us put the state of our country, the welfare of our neighbors, ahead of reliving the perverse and immature thrill of high school rivalries.

Some of us look past the SURFACE of rhetoric, whether by the candidates or by the followers and want to know if there is SUBSTANCE in policy planning that will begin to repair the last 15 years of damage. Much of that wrought by people whose self interest took precedence over the people they were elected to assist.

52. Politics create reality...
and this society is sick..in so many ways. And it is due to the consequences on top of consequences from the policies of our government. It has been going on for decades. How can I possibly help prevent more needless pain and suffering in the future, when the policies of our government continue to inflict more injury? This election surely will have an impact on policy...it's just in what way. I don't want more of the same last 7 years, and the effects of those years that for some will last a lifetime.
