"Robin Morgan tells young feminist Obama supporters we're scaredy-cat bimbos"
From one of my fave fembloggers, a much better response than I could craft to that insulting Robin Morgan essay.

"...Usually when I’m being accused of being some tee-heeing bimbo who is only playing at politics, it’s usually by some conservative white dude who can’t think his way out of a paper bag, but feels entitled to believe his every thought is gold served up with caviar. Hearing it from a fellow feminist, someone I recall was a brilliant radical feminist when she was my age, is shocking. I know Morgan probably doesn’t know me from Eve, and thus I shouldn’t take it personally. But it still hurts tremendously. I’m not shaking in fear of my boyfriend finding out that I’m a feminist (I think he knows), nor am I afraid to talk up Clinton’s strong points to men. I do it all the time, and haven’t gotten any funny looks, even though I’m prone to phrasing things in provocative ways. (Favorite talking point: “She’d probably be a better President than her husband.”)..."

1. who is Robin Morgan? Why does her opinion matter?
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. I personally think Obama supporters are misguided for not supporting my candidate, but I certainly wouldn't characterize Obama's feminist supporters as "scaredy-cat bimbos".

2. Check out this thread
I'm an Obama supporter, but this piece by Robin Morgan (a very well known feminist, read by a lot of progressives in the 1970s), is very worthy:

4. I heard her on NPR today- and it
really surprised me how much I was offended by her.

I am a woman who believes very strongly in equality for all. What I heard in her, and read in her essay is someone who doesn't seek equality, but who demands superiority.

I will be very happy to cast my vote for the first woman elected to be president, when the best candidate IMO is also a woman.

peace~

5. I'm shocked by the attitude of some in the feminist community
It's like they're projecting themselves onto Hillary Clinton. Not supporting Clinton is a rejection of them. Or a betrayal, as some called it.

6. me too-
But I'm not afraid to speak out anymore. Being really free, and equal, means not feeling like I have to support someone based on the fact that they are a woman- but because they are worthy of support. When our feminine qualities do not need to be compromised or used to manipulate others, but are accepted as part of the whole package that makes us who we are, then we will know we have achieved equality.

maybe I'm no longer a feminist- maybe I'm just a humanist now?

There are too many ists for me these days-

peace~

8. The thing is, I do value the opinion of women like her. That's why what she said hurts. nt
