America is not ready for a woman president - CNN polls
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/08/20008.matchups.schneider/

Here are the highlights:

Obama beats McCain more than Clinton.

In the CNN poll, Obama leads McCain by 8 points, 52 percent to 44 percent. That's outside the margin of error, meaning that Obama has the lead.

More people dislike Clinton than they do Obama or McCain.

Clinton does have higher negatives than Obama -- and McCain. Forty-four percent of the public say they don't like Clinton, compared with 36 percent who don't like McCain and 31 percent who don't like Obama, according to the CNN poll conducted February 1-3.

Obama does better among white voters.

Some Democrats may be worried about how Obama will fare with white voters. Whites give McCain a 15-point lead over Clinton, (56 percent for McCain, 41 percent for Clinton).

But Obama actually fares better than Clinton with white voters. McCain still leads, but by a smaller margin, (52 to 43 percent).

America is more sexist, apparently, than it is racist.

But the big difference is men: Men give McCain an 18-point lead over Clinton, 57 percent to 39 percent, according to the CNN poll. The margin of error for that question was plus or minus 5 percentage points.

But if McCain and Obama went head to head, McCain's lead among men shrinks to three, 49 percent to 46 percent -- statistically a tie.

Women, on the other hand, vote for either Clinton or Obama by similar margins.

Fascinating.

2. Yeah, white people are afraid to get on the elevator with me because I'm a woman.
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 08:02 PM by xultar
Men are afraid to be around me because I'm a woman, that's why they lock their doors when I walk past their car.

People call the cops on my mom when she visits her property in a white neighborhood because they are afraid of her...cuz she's a woman, not cuz she's black.

white women grab their purses when they see me because they are afraid I'm gonna steal their lipstick not because they are afraid of black folk.

You forgot to point out that ALL white people are like this
If you're not careful, people might think you're only referring to bigoted white people, and not all white people in general.

4. America isn't ready for THIS woman to be president.
They are ready for this black man to be president.

It's about the choice between a candidate people trust and one they don't, rather than a choice between male or female.

19. Yep, isn't like Clinton is some generic woman. In the mind of Americans she is a Clinton first
and a woman second.

5. Obama is even with McCain on the male vote
That is HUGE. Let's not bring sexism and racism into the debate. Men oppose Hillary for the same reasons they opposed Kerry, they see them as part of the nanny-state contingent.

8. So, race is no MORE important than gender. I guess Yoko Ono was right
years ago in what she said about women. I would be banned for posting her song title. But the point is valid and neither of these issues , race OR gender should be reason to vote for President.

9. I think they're not ready for this woman to be the next president.
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 08:09 PM by Drunken Irishman
There is a difference, though.

I mean, you could say America wasn't ready for a black president in 2004 when Sharpton failed to gain any support. Except I think they are ready, he just was not the candidate they were willing to vote for.

10. Oh please. Of COURSE America is ready for a woman
The question is -- are they ready for Hillary Clinton.

It isn't the what, it is the who that is the big question here.

11. And WHAT were WE expecting from the 24/7 obama television network?
Interesting how obama runs his political commercials on cnn and that is cnn's focus ALL DAY AND NIGHT. Guess a candidate needs to pay to get play.

13. Wonderful. Now we have the option of running the only two Dem candidates
that can possibly lose this race.

Once again, Democrats cleverly attempt to snatch defeat from the jaws of certain victory.

Al...Al Gore...hello?

16. and little lyn is so happy that
that the 'strated are still liked.

After all, what would you do if a woman became prez? This would shatter every silly myth that the boys carry with them.

The same thing happens when a woman becomes a doctor, an engineer, a physicist, a boss....it makes the male feel less. OMG...a woman can do the job. I am nothing more than a woman. OMG.

You, lyn, are insecure....your problem.

The American culture has to evolve if the planet is going to survive. But with lyn, we won't.

17. It has more to do with which woman is running.
She has a lot of strengths but also a LOT of baggage. I'll vote for a yellow dog if it gets nominated, but I'd prefer it was a yellow dog I liked.
