8. I was an Edwards supporter. At the Kansas caucus last week,
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 09:54 AM by tblue37
I joined other Edwards supporters, and our group reached a grand total of 40 (330 were need for viability in a caucus crowd of 2218). After realignment, I went to the Obama group, which ended up with 1822 voters. The Hillary group ended up with 385 voters. A group of 7 Kucinich die-hards and 4 Edwards die-hards refused to budge. If there had been any chance at all of helping Edwards to get even one delegate, I also would have held my ground--but there was simply no chance, so I wanted to use my vote for my second choice. Obama ended up with 9 of 11 delegates, and Hillary ended up with 2 from our caucus site.

And I think I ended up with the flu. At the very least, I ended up with what old-timers used to call an "ague." We stood in line in the freezing rain for 30 minutes to over an hour (depending on which line and the actual time at which one arrived). Then we were crowded into the fairgrounds building with 2200+ other people, many coughing, sneezing, and hacking. When we came out of the caucus 3 hours later, we found a blinding snowstorm, with high winds making visibility almost zero. Fortunately classes were cancelled at KU (where I teach English) the next day because of the snowstorm. I was so ill that night and that morning that I honestly think I would not have made it to class--and I am the sort of person who doesn't miss class for anything.

I will say that it was a cool experience in many ways--but I also doubt that I would be willing to go through it again. Fortunately, the Kansas parties are going to pressure our legislature to appropriate money for a primary next election cycle.

Nevertheless, the fact that such huge numbers turned out and willingly stood in long lines under such horrendous conditions for the Democratic caucus suggests the excitement that Obamahas prompted,e specially among young people. The crowd at my caucus site was filled with young folks, many of them first-time voters In fact, over 1200 of that 2200+ crowd were people who had to register at the door. It was touching to see how caught up they were in the excitement. This is why I went with Obama as my second choice. Besides his appeal to independents and moderate Republicans (important, since McCain appeals to the same groups), he also is like to draw many new voters tot he polls, whereas many who would vote Dem vow to stay home if Hillary is our nominee. I like Hillary, and I believe she would be a good president--I just think she is less likely than Obama to beat McCain, and the national polls support that notion. Of course, the national polls also showed that Edwards would do better than either Hillary or Obama against any of the Republican candidates, but eh just couldn't get enough Democratic primary voters to be a viable candidate.

I hope that whoever gets our nomination is wise enough to offer the VP slot to the other. I believe that a Hillary/Obama or an Obama/Hillary ticket would win easily, and I would be perfectly happy with either ticket. Then they could get Edwards in as AG to clean up that stinking sewer of a DoJ.

15. The "cult" thing had already taken off
The news media was extremely frightened by JE, he was a DC "outsider". The insiders didn't want him in the race.

candidate who offered well-left-of-center domestic policy proposals.

Those were my issues.

I'm just not a Clinton Democrat -- although I would have been a lot more interested in Sen. Clinton had she summarily refused to align with any of her husband's cronies. I think she's a LOT more interesting a candidate without Bill's long shadow.

17. The fire in my belly is gone
I wish I knew how to get it back.

I'm leaning Hillary for the Va Primary, but not sure what I'll do if I see JE's name on the ballot. I want to at least vote for him, then probably be done with politics (actively and financially) until Nov08.

I miss the passion and inspiration.

the VA primary.

If you vote Edwards, I'm ready to cheer that choice.

Pretty please. You know you want to. ;)

I'm voting for John this Tuesday in Md. In fact, if someone held a gun to my head and said "you have to vote for either Hillary or Obama", they'd have to just go ahead and shoot me 'cause I'm not budging.

9. We don't deserve him. We let TPTB and the corprat media run him off.
 Enough of us didn't listen too him, were willing to condemn him because he is wealthy, because he built his dream home, because he .... well you know. He wanted to fight for us and we let him down. But hey, there's still HOPE AND CHANGE still time to jump on that bandwagon. :eyes:

14. It would be nice, wouldn't it?
The Obama folks couldn't wait for him to get out of the race so they could escalate the campaign to new levels of negativity.

I've begun to conclude that Obama's campaign is insecure about his record and experience and see negative campaigning as the only way to gain an advantage.

We wouldn't accept that from the GOP, we sure shouldn't accept it from one of our own candidates.
