Tom Reynolds (R.) of NYS as saying "This protracted battle on the Democrat's side creates an opportunity for Republicans in November that demands we unite behind our candidate (McCain) now!" That is where it is...!! The DNC, and all others who have any say have got to encourage Obama, Clinton to resolve, regroup and join together..Another e-mail I received from a reliable source says a recent poll of repubs..said they would unite to defeat either candidate..We need every minute of every hour to bring McCain into retirement!

Democrats in states who haven't had a chance before to affect the nomination have it this year. For once, voters across the whole country are engaged. It's a better democracy when elections are not short circuited for an early nomination.

9. What Is The Solution?

I know many Clinton supporters and soft Obama supporters would say that she should tap him as her running mate. But, this is a bad idea for several reasons.

1) I don't think Obama wants to be VP, not even with the temptation of being able to run for President in 8 years. For one thing, when asked why he is running now, Michelle Obama said something about them not being too far from normal. Of course, those words don't come out of his mouth, and candidates say all sorts of things, but I think there's some truth to it - Obama feels it's now or never. He may be right. Name the last time a Democrat followed an unsuccessful bid for the presidency with a successful one?

2) I don't think Obama wants to be Clinton's VP. Even if he were willing to take #2 spot, I don't think he'd be willing to do it for her. He knows darn well that Bill Clinton is going to be very influential in Hillary's campaign and presidency and that the VP is going to have very little opportunity to direct policy.

3) I don't think Clinton wants Obama. He brings nothing to her campaign. The Clintons are already popular with African Americans. As a woman, she is going to want to pick some old white guy to show she can be tough. She's not going to want to be upstaged by a fresh faced idealist who makes her look "old" and even more calculating than she already is. Also, she is going to want a running mate who is loyal to her.

4) Can you imagine the field day the Republicans would have if we went with a ticket "picked" by Fidel Castro?

The only thing that could happen is for one or both of them to subvert their own desires and ambitions for the good of the party. I don't see Hillary Clinton doing that. I do see that Obama might do it, but he would have to believe that his dropping back and allowing Clinton to go for it was really the best for the Democrats and the country. I don't think he believes that.

Of course, I could be wrong about both of them.
