Hillary: McCain 'legendary'
Hillary: McCain 'legendary'

Politico's Ken Vogel reports:

John McCain has a “legendary background” and will be a tough opponent in the general election, Hillary Clinton told a big crowd in Orono, Maine.

Clinton has focused increasingly in recent days on casting herself as better equipped than Democratic presidential rival Barack Obama to take on McCain in November.

And on Saturday morning, she said, “You’ll never have to worry about me being knocked out of the ring. I think I can go toe to toe with John McCain.”

She said her record stacks up better than Obama’s against McCain.

“That is what I am offering and it will be even more important if our nominee is running against ... with the legendary background of John McCain.”

1. She isn't beating McCain, no matter what her record is. Her unlikability will seal it.

3. Maybe she should be a little less flowery in her description o McCain
if she would remember the vile joke she told about Janet Reno being Chelsea's father. I'd think more about her "toughness" if she stood up to idiots that said this kind of shit about her kid and worried less about the "pimping out" comments.

4. This is a winning strategy...
Tell people how great McCain is. So this week alone she's talked about the great respect she has for John McCain and now how legendary he is and how tough he'll be in the general election.

This is going to be great because I'm sure McCain is saying similar things to the press about her. Bill's right! If she wins the nomination this campaign is going to be so civil that it hurts. I can't wait.

5. So she thinks she's "legendary" enough to match him?
Maybe in her own mind...

6. Romney, jerk as he is, claimed Hillary and McCain were similar on many issues too.
Some said Romney stayed in to ensure Huckabee wouldn't get the delegates...

Maybe Clinton's in it just so McCain can win? Hey, W W AC D?

(I've read far more stupid tinfoil hat garbage on DU, so I'm going to put in some too. :P )

7. Whether you agree with his politics or not, and I don't, you cannot
deny that John McCain's background is legendary. The fact that he was a POW and his past service to his country, whether in the military or public office, are a matter of public record.

The current polls seem to indicate that right now voters think that Obama has a slight advantage over Hillary when running head to head with John McCain, but that could change. At this point, nothing is certain.

16. That's nice, but it was over 35 years ago
And this is not to denigrate his military record, I won't sink to the level of the swiftboaters.

I'm interested in what he can do for us today, and his record since leaving Vietnam is not too good. If people would only free themselves of this "maverick" meme and look at McCain for what he is. He has said some disgusting things over the past few decades.

14. I don't like this. Why is she propping that psycho up?
She needs to expose him for the filth he is. Not only that, but McCain disrespected her daughter AND thought it was cute and funny when one of his supporters called her a bitch. Senator Clinton--with all due respect, please get your shit together because praising reTHUGS just won't do!!
