Huckabee is really likeable....and this scares the heck out of me.
Doing my Saturday morning chores, I had MSNBC on and Huckabee was addressing that conservative convention. They really liked him...but what scared me, is that as I watched him, he came across so sincere, likable, warm and friendly. His policies? They are well beyond being fucked up....into the realm of the Twilight Zone for Fundies. But he is likable as all hell. And....for the politically uninformed which unfortunately seems to be an apt label for many voters, I truly can see if here were the noni nee for either POTUS or VP how voters could be attracted to him.

Huckabee's BS scares the heck out of me...I just sure as hell hope that he is not on the Repuke ticket come this November.

:scared:

1. You are very charitable.
I think Huckabee is one of the most sickening people I've ever seen in public life.

...his policies. However, he has an engating manner about him and that is really frightening to me.

Edit for typo

As I say, you are being charitable, which is wholly to your credit.
The man makes me puke even before we get to his policies!

...I normally am not known for being too nice about things or people with whom I disagree as strongly as I disagree with the BS that Huckabee puts out!

3. I think he has his moments...
He can come across as very likable and folksy. Then I listen to the BS about the "fair" tax and wake up. And then he compared gays to animal lovers...

4. His policies and ideas could not be more fucked up....
...but just watching him, I could see where the average uninformed voter who was moderate to somewhat conservative would find him very attractive.

Huckabee scares the heck out of me...he is IMO fucking nuts.

6. I've watched him a couple of times
I find his one-liners forced -- kind of like the kid who just won't stop joking and get serious. He's always trying to one-up himself with his endless quips and gibes.

But, that being said, as you stated, "...for the politically uninformed which unfortunately seems to be an apt label for many voters..." they might just fall for it.

Bottom line is, let's see what the powers that be in the Repug party will do -- no nominee will win without their blessing.

7. You're right. I saw him first on the Daily Show and thought he was great.
Of course, I quickly looked up his history and discovered that he's a disgusting toad, but 5 minutes into his interview with Jon Stewart I said, "that guy is going to be the Republican nominee for president."

14. I know Huckabee too well
Being an Arkansas governor. He is racist, anti-gay and compares them to animals, and wants to change the constitution to be in line with God.

23. In other words....
...Huckabee is FUBAR! I cannot imagine what a freaking mess we would be in if he were elected either POTUS or VP.

:scared:

I think he is more dangerous than McCain and far more appealing ~~ IMO, he would be harder for the Dems to beat.

Huckabee is one sick asshole IMO.

lately it seems like we've had a lot of misinformation to rile up the troops.

19. I have NO clue whey my profile is not on here...and I cannot
remember when I joined, but I know it was a pretty long time before I moved to the new house I am in and I have been here a bit over three years. So, I am guessing that I have been on the DU for at least 4 years or even longer. I am trying to remember the topics that were on when I first joined...but do not recall.

Did I do anything to keep my profile from being found? If so, I sure did not mean to.

...in fact you alerted me to something I had not noticed....that my profie was hidden. And...I joined in April 2004, so I was pretty right about being on her around 4 years and that I joined when I lived in West LA. I am now in the Palos Verdes area of Calif...so now I have to go and re-do my stats!

Thanks for alerting me that I had hidden my profile...I had not idea that I had done this.

Between now & their convention - the Huckster would be their defacto nominee. And he believes cavemen rode dinosaurs to church!

He sounded great. Nice guy, good sense of humor. I still don't worry about him much though. Just wait until more people talking about how we need to bring the constitution in line with God. We'll be fine.

17. Well, maybe....on the Const thingy....
...I posted the other day about a pal of mine who is soooooooo politically uninformed, she could not remember what she is registered as...but thinks she is a Repubbie. I spoke to her after she voted in the primary ~~ Calif ~~ and she mispronounced Romney's name and did not know who he was...knew NOTHING about him.

So....to her, someone who wants a const amendment to prevent abortions is a really good idea, etc. She is a very nice lady, but NOT into politics at all and when I said something about the const being brought into line with God's laws, she looked at me in a puzzled way and wanted to know what was wrong with that???

Oh, fuck.......:argh:

15. I've heard others say that too
My mother said he is very likeable (also said McCain was). She'd never vote for either one but likes them. I've heard a progressive radio talk show host or two say that they liked Huckabee, too.

I've seen him be kind of funny but knowing his policies already tainted it too much for me to warm up to him.

No one except fundies take him seriously, and there's not enough of them to make up for how repulsive he is to most people.

20. But....and this is what scares the shit out of me....
...did'nt the fundies pretty much swing a lot of votes to Bush??? Like handing out shit in church parking lots and other pretty questionable stuff for tax exempt organizations to be doing?

If they did this for Bush...why can't they do the same for Huckabee? Having Huckabee as POTUS scares the freaking hell out of me. His policies are sooooooooooooooo off the wall neocon crazy, I cannot even begin to comprehend what the hell goes on in his head.

It is possible McCain cannot lock it before the convention!
After all, he needs 40% support among Rs!

24. It is scary because a lot of people bought Bush's "good ole boy" image too.
And now look where we are. Too many people are easily bought by charm. Example: Detroit's mayor.

26. His positions and his policies really are terrible.
That said I like him too, He has personal warmth and a real sense of humor. He is fun to watch.
I have seen him several times on Cobert. Steven and He were having a great time each time.

Truth to tell, he is the only Republican I have been able to watch for decades.

He would be a disastrous president. I am glad he has not caught on. I do not think he will.

But then there is 2012....

27. My absolute nightmare used to
be a Romney/Huckabee ticket. Now it is a McCain/ Huckabee ticket. Their slogan could be "100 Years of War Cause God says so." Seriously, I can't imagine the Republicans winning, but without the fundamentalist vote and the religious right-wing (like my former sister-in-law in Ohio) going out and knocking on doors, the Republicans could really get destroyed nationally and locally. With the fundamentalist vote - and activists in - a few seats in the house and senate that could have gone to us go the other way, a state or county legislature, a governorship.

I am worried about Huckabee because he is "likeable." And you are right, most people hear him say he wants to put the IRS out of business and they figure " okay - lower taxes - and not "no, I mean a 23% sales tax and no IRS." they hear "values and morality" and they think, "okay, less porn, no gay marriage< remember they are republicans, not me thinking this shit> and lots and lots of guns," not "no, I mean change the constitution to fit with the 10 commandments."

The guy is everyones likeable conservative uncle. Except he really is dangerous.

It's like he's Bill Clinton 2.0 (the repuke version). I noticed his likability as well. He was a hoot on the Colbert report.

slot for us will be important as they will have to 1:1 debate this fall.

Can't afford to have the wrong candidate up there looking divisive against folksy.

30. He won the nod from Republican voters here in TN on Super Tuesday
and most of those who voted for him were conservative evangelicals. We have more than our fair share of 'em here, but the fact that he spoke at a rapture-ready right-wing megachurch here in Memphis last weekend probably didn't hurt, either.

32. Yeah, but when he says thing like this:
"Our country is special because our founding fathers were on their knees before they stood on their feet". He starts out telling joke and laughing then slams into claims we are a christian nation and should follow the bible. It's really freaky and the audience who isn't put off by that kind of talk is relatively small.

33. One of the things
that Bill Clinton noted is that Hucklebee is the only republican candidate who can tell jokes. The others were all too uptight. McCain is not really noted for the easy-going, relaxed attitude. Huckleberry has the communication skills that their party needs to make November a contest.
