Is there anything from either of them on this? You'd think after these last two bloody days one of the two leading candidates for the Democratic nomination would address the fact that three police officers and at least ten other people have been brutally gunned down.
All I could get out of Hillary was a statement about the shooting at Louisiana Technical College buried deep within all the news about fundraisers and such.
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=5841Nothing on the shootings in LA that killed three people and a SWAT officer, the mass shooting in Kirkwood, Mo., or the shooting/stabbing in Portsmouth, OH., where the estranged husband of a fifth grade teacher stabbed her in front of her class before killing himself in his garage.
I tried to get to Obama website to check out his press releases but you have to sign up first and I've already got enough spam in my email, so I wasn't able to enter.
At On The Issues I found these policy positions from both of them on gun control:
Obama:
"Q: When you were in the state senate, you talked about licensing and registering gun owners. Would you do that as president?
A: I don't think that we can get that done. But what we can do is to provide just some common-sense enforcement."
http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Gun_Control.htmSounds eerily like the NRA position on Gun Control, no?
And Hillary?
"Hillary Rodham Clinton offered her support for a legislative proposal to license hand guns. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Charles Schumer, would require anyone who wants to purchase a gun to obtain a state-issued photo gun license. 'I stand in support of this common sense legislation to license everyone who wishes to purchase a gun,' Clinton said. 'I also believe that every new handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry, such as Chuck is proposing.'"
http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Hillary_Clinton_Gun_Control.htmOf course, that was from a CNN report back in 2000. I defy you to find one word on Gun Control since, at least, the Virginia Tech killings last year.
So, what are we supposed to do, just keep our mouths shut about the fact that neither of our illustrious candidates is courageous enough to mention that maybe this country might be a little gun crazy, that perhaps we might want to do something about curtailing the daily slaughter that goes on in our streets, schools and shopping malls?
Lets just keep going out there and rolling the dice and hope some mental patient didn't just go down to the local gun shop and buy himself a Glock to let off a little steam at some random targets, like me or you, or your kids.
We'll do anything to get into the White House, right?
