Warmonger COLIN POWELL may support the Democrat or Indi in '08

CNN Political ticker

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican who served under President Bush, said Friday he may not back the GOP presidential nominee in November, telling CNN that “I am keeping my options open at the moment.”

“I have voted for members of both parties in the course of my adult life,” Powell, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “And as I said earlier, I will vote for the candidate I think can do the best job for America, whether that candidate is a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent.”

Powell also offered praise for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, calling him an “exciting person on the political stage.

“He has energized a lot of people in America,” said Powell, who briefly weighed his own run for the White House in the mid-1990s. “He has energized a lot of people around the world. And so I think he is worth listening to and seeing what he stands for.”

===============

Maybe he can hold up a little vial of bogus WMD when he gives his endorsement.

2. Powell and Hillary were on the same page in 2003. Now we villify one, elect the other.

8. I think it was Powell's case for going to war with Iraq that really tipped the scales.
People trusted him. Remember when he was going to run for president? A lot of people were excited.

I remember watching him on television, in a diner, when he was holding up those vials. That's when I knew the war was definitely on.

18. This thread wasn't meant to be about Clinton. It's about Powell.
You take his appreciative comments about Obama and suddenly it's all about Clinton voting for the IWR. No need to be defensive. We can't trust Colin's word, remember?

21. I just find it amusing that some can criticize Powell and not Clinton.
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 07:31 PM by Zueda
You are just trying to set the stage...

Powell apologized for his role and distanced himself from BushCo.

The Clintons refuse to apologize and now play golf with BushCo.

You people are just insane.

24. I find it amusing that you can't seem to figure out the subject of this thread.
Colin Powell may endorse a Democrat or an Indi. Who the hell would want his endorsement?

Thank you for your obligatory two minutes of Clinton outrage.

I feel bad for him.

19. He knew it was a lie.
The night before the presentation, he threw the papers in the air and yelled, "I'm not reading this, this is bullshit!"

Colin is a good soldier. He always follows commands from his superior officers. I think that's what it boils down to.

27. He did exactly what Karl Rove told him to do and said exactly what Karl Rove told him to say.
I watched the presentation to the UN(more than once). Powell lied and he was told to lie.

29. Then he went through everything again and took only what
he felt was true.

He did NOT say everything they told him to.

4. I don't hate Powell...
As far as Bushco Goes.. i think he's probably one of the better ones in that administration (if there is such a thing).

And, I think he quickly realized what a disaster Bush was, and tried to tell him to stop quite a few things.. and proptly was asked to resign.

So, good for Powell for somewhat seeing the light and standing up (albiet quite late). He's not a hero.. but he's not Rummy bad or Cheney bad either, IMO

12. He Was Second to Bush in How Many Lies Were Told
he knew Saddam posed no threat, said so before 9/11.

War criminal, partially responsible for a million dead Iraqi's.

He shouldn't be able to vote IMO.

5. Brings Back Memories
This reminds me that before Barack Obama, there have been only two African American individuals on the national stage that impressed me sufficiently to consider them ready as potential presidential material. One was the late Barbara Jordan, and the other-briefly-was Colin Powell (yes, despite the affiliation). I was genuinely disappointed when he chose not to seek the office. Subsequently, he ruined himself in my eyes.

If he endorses Obama now, will Obama thank him for it?

14. Only LBN requires precise article title, as I was informed yesterday :)
Don't you remember about Colin throwing the papers in the air and yelling, "I'm not reading this, this is bullshit!" He was his own man, and I think he tipped the scales. I don't know what they had on him, maybe promised him a rose garden, but if Powell had not put on that dog and pony show, who knows, history might have taken a different route. Odds are they would have gotten another lackey to take his place. They always do.

Don't worry, Colin isn't stupid. He knows his reputation in the Dem community. He would only do that if he thought the backlash would help McCain, a fellow soldier, a fellow veteran, another Republican.

22. He might be running for president, if his wife were amenable to it.
She is the one who put the brakes on it before.

There are so many things which would be different now if he had been able to discard his "good soldier" identity and not put on that charade in front of the UN.

I suppose that bored writers will look him up for quotes, but Colin Powell is finished in national leadership.
