Good news for Obama. CNN exit poll (Louisiana): heavy church attenders prefer Obama
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 09:45 PM by marcellobarrios
This is a good sign, because this is a group that traditionally prefers Republicans. Obama could make a dent in this group in November.

In this church attendance breakdown, we can see that in Louisiana,

Those who attend church more than weekly: Obama 62%, Clinton 35%
Those who attend church never: Clinton 64%, Obama 36%
Weekly: Obama 52%, Clinton 47%
Those who attend church a few times a year: Clinton 50%, Obama 45%

13. Yes, African-Americans have a strong religious tradition. That's what they have clinged to.
Throughout their history, it has given them strength to go on. And to fight back.

2. Those "fanatics" may be blacks that already support Dems
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 09:47 PM by knowledgeispwr
Also, the "church" is often the center of community activity in both white and black areas. Hence, those people may not be "fanatics."

3. What needs to be asked is how and why he's getting the fundie vote.
And the answer might NOT be a very good sign.

12. You forget...
that the black population is also a good chunk of the regular church going population. Probably the biggest chunk in the Democratic party.

20. Perhaps... but black voters typically break at least 80% Democrat, anyway.
And yet, I've never seen numbers like that before in our column.

26. I know a few people that go on Wednesdays and Sundays
When I attended regularly, I went Sundays and to a Bible study during the week. Plus there's choir practice.

28. CA regular church attendees are fairly likely to be Catholic and latino.
Completely different demographic and mindset from southern protestants.

And outside of two counties (both of which are enormously Republican anyhow) we don't have many protestant fundies here, so the regular churchgoer thing isn't really the same demo here that it is in the south.

22. I hate to tell you this, but the GOP religious is going heavily for Huckabee.
McCain is struggling to hold back the red Huckabee tide. So if it comes down to religious voters, who do you think they're going to pick, a man who's going to run this country strictly by the Bible, or a pro-choice Democrat who wants to "embrace" gays?

When the religious enter the voting booth, allegiance to God trumps allegiance to race or party. Think about it.

32. You grouped the wrong words
The words that are logically grouped are church and attenders.

church attenders is being modified by the adjective "heavy".

As it seems obvious, I was not talking about those who attend churches that weigh a lot of pounds.
