The low black turnout in LA is a wakeup call to the Obama campaign
they need to do much better in their get-out-the-vote efforts in the Potomac primaries. I hope the campaign realizes this and has a plan to improve the turnout.

1. I think it says more about the abandonment that the people of Lousisiana feel.

3. I agree. I don't think their mayor did them well during Katrina, they're
probably just weary of politicians, period.

They might simply be having trouble establishing permanent addresses from which to register
keeping registered is a PITA if you're moving a lot

32. Part of the Republican plan to flip LA, and particularly N.O., red.
Disenfrachise the black population, refuse to rebuild in formerly black districts - any idea how many NO residents are still living outside LA? The lack of response to Katrina was punishment for not supporting *.

2. I think it says more about how Chimp royally fucked up
then about Obama. Even for a low turnout, blacks still consisted of half of the vote.

6. Wasn't there something about "disenfranchisment"?
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 12:23 AM by zidzi
Would not that account for lower vote turnout if they were turned away at the polls because they didn't know enough to ask for "provisional ballots"?

4. I think we'll find out some things happened to reduce the turnout
There have been several states where post election stories revealed unusal goings on usually associated with Republican dirty tricks in general elections. I think there was some voter suppression, probably done to reduce the black vote.

25. Clinton captured 70% of the White vote in Louisiana...
...and certain posters won't say a mumblin' word about that. Kind of damages their “Wooooo! Sumpn's wrong with Black people votin' for a Black guy” meme.

Lots of people have been saying that for some time now, but so what? Most of the people in Nebraska and Washington state are white but he's winning there too. Big deal.

perhaps that bodes well for Obama in TX. But he won today, and that's what matters. But I hope that any primary voters that had problems in LA can get them resolved before the GE.

Tragedy, really. I've seen posts tonight blaming lot of people for this low turn-out, but I really believe that many people in southern Louisiana feel completely abandoned by all facets of government and really don't give a crap who gets elected. They don't believe or trust any of them.

other primaries with similar composition. The one thing Hillary might have going for her is a lot of federal workers who compare The Clinton years with the Bush years.
