OK, I just crunched the numbers on the Thread-limit proposal
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 12:36 AM by FlyingSquirrel
The poll is here

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4501796

Over the last 24 hours, DU'ers posting (in GDP):

1 thread: 263
2 threads: 97
3 threads: 44
4-5 threads: 35
6-9 threads: 20
10+ threads: 11

6.5% of DU'ers accounted for 28.5% of new threads (those posting 6 or more threads)

Total threads in 24 hrs: 1,043

If limited to 5 threads, total would be 900
If limited to 4 threads, total would be 853
If limited to 3 threads, total would be 787
If limited to 2 threads, total would be 677
If limited to 1 thread, total would be 470

Over the same 24-hour period.

Just an FYI

:)

12. I think you might be able to answer a question for me...

I have heard, and used, ~5000 unique people post here every week...in the major forums. It appears you have some statistics at hand. Is the 5000 number about right?

17. Oh, I'm not sure.
I don't have THAT much info! But it sounds about right. Once I did a little thing where I tried to figure out who supported what candidate and was able to collect that info on over 1,000 unique DU'ers over a week. So assuming not everyone was saying who they supported, and that many were posting in other forums but not GDP, I'm sure 5000+ is not a bad guesstimate.

:hi:

4. Good stuff. Any idea how many are flame baiting?
I think most of the BS comes from those people with high post counts. That's the point.

15. Actually, scratch that...
I just accidentally closed the worksheet without saving any progress so I won't be able to say who the top posters were. Probably better this way anyway....

8. Wow. Use the block button on just a few and life improves......
I don't think we should limit posters, I for one love people like Babylonsister who sometimes may post more than 5?, with very intelligent informative non-flame posts. I would hate to limit the good ones that can occasionally have an active posting day.

18. the proposal is only to limit posts in GD: P, not the other forums...
...so GD etc would not be affected. Most of the high quality posters post to GD, LBN, and some of the top forums. I'm wondering whether Politics/Campaigns might be the next place the really egregious folks descend upon next if their posts in GD: P are limited. If they switch to a forum the Latest will be inundated again.

10. 6.5% of DU'ers accounted for 28.5% of new threads ...
... and I have every one of them on ignore

I won't read any spammers and don't want their threads clogging up the screen. Whatever they say, someone else will say better. I drop all high volume thread starters.

in the veterans forum in particular, we have one poster who provides links to relevant news stories just about every day. I don't read all the links, but I appreciate their work and use it as a reference regularly.

Today they singlehandedly filled the entire first page of the forum except for one other thread. They posted a poll asking for feedback a while back asking if people liked it or if it bothered us. 58 votes: keep posting. 1 vote: knock it off.

22. I'd sleep better with a 600 thread count. (preferably egyptian cotton)
So I'm in the mainstream with a preference for 1-2 posts/person.
Natch...the shadow freeptards and repuke operatives will have circumvent the rules with multiple IP's and usernames.
IMHO.
