3. Some Clinton supporters stole some voting boxes and got caught
She's a party wonk and he's a State Senator. They got caught red handed with ballot boxes they had taken home. Probably stealing Obama votes.

8. I think that's slander and/or libel
in the very legal sense of it. You need to use some variation, like, "found". Some Clinton supporters "found" some uncounted boxes of ballots at their home.

It's a mystery I tell ya!

But I don't have to stick my head in the sand with you.

24. There's a difference in how it's expressed
The difference between your opinion and a slanderous accusation, that's all.

27. You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about.
You know nothing about the law of slander, which is CIVIL, or theft, which is criminal. Unlike you, I do know, and can see it here. Stick to making nonsensical comments to promote your girl, and leave real analysis to people who actually understand the things they address.

29. I'm trying to be considerate
Accusing politicians of stealing election ballots is very serious and publishing it on this web site is absolutely libel. You didn't leave any qualifications to your accusation at all, you just laid it out as if it were fact that they had done it. If you don't care, you don't care, but you shouldn't lead other people to believe they can go around making statements like that with no regard.

And Hillary is not my girl, I just don't think it does any good to make statements like that when all the facts aren't in.

30. Anyone here can say that the two Hillary supporters in New Mexico stole boxes
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 02:30 AM by TexasObserver
Because they did.

You're painfully ignorant if you think there is anything actionable about saying these people stole ballot boxes. Just like I can freely say you don't know the first thing about libel or slander, your comments are completely contrary to law, and therefore such comments are both stupid and ignorant. It's not libel. It's the truth. The truth is always a defense to libel or slander charges, something a person like you doesn't know, can't understand, and still won't understand now that I've explained it to you.

Now you'll prove I'm right, by saying something else that would embarrass most people to say.

35. Is there anything besides blog reports of this?
The only record I see of this even happening is from a blog. Are you sure it even happened? Do you know that there weren't extenuating circumstances, hell maybe a building flooded, you don't know. What proof do you have that anybody "stole" boxes and didn't inform the state election officials of the location of the boxes. You have no idea what happened and are just jumping to the conclusion they were stolen. This is the second time you've pretended to be a legal expert and all I've got to say is I hope to god you're not a prosecutor because heaven help the people you're putting away.

14. The story is here. Read it and draw your own conclusions.
Primary Scandal in New Mexico

From New Mexico political reporter Heath Haussaman:
Uncounted Rio Arriba County ballots raise eyebrows

The New Mexico Democratic Party caucus may be tainted by three ballot boxes that spent the night in the home of the Rio Arriba County party chair or the homes of other local election officials instead of being reported to the state party.

Those ballots still haven’t been counted, but they have been retrieved by the state party.

Several sources told me the ballot boxes spent the night at the home of Rio Arriba County Democratic Party Chair Theresa Martinez, whose state-lawmaker husband, Sen. Richard Martinez, endorsed Hillary Clinton. But Richard Martinez told Santa Fe New Mexican reporter Kate Nash that the boxes actually spent the night in the homes of three polling-place managers. He gave Nash no explanation for why the results from those ballots weren’t reported to the state party last night and why they were instead kept overnight in officials’ homes.

25. I don't know, but I suspected it when it was happening and posted as such
My posts last Tuesday night repeatedly suggested that the slow returns and tight race meant someone - probably a well placed Clintonista - was trying to steal the election by stuffing some ballot boxes that would be counted last.

Search and you'll find my numerous references to it. These people cheat. It's a part of their campaign style.

why are you burying the lead. I have been clicking every 30 minutes seeing when NM would count the last few ballots. How come you didn't start a thread with this? I still think you should because most people are not going to see it and it is a legitmate news story.

34. And it appears there were several others involved - classic stuffing
Geez, Louise. It's pretty transparent, isn't it?!

They delay the count over night, so they go home, take out Obama votes, and stuff the boxes with forged Hillary votes. Right now, it's a conclusion drawn from what we know. After it is investigated, we'll probably find out a lot more detail. There is simply no legitimate reason for them to take the boxes, and it is a felony to do so. How can anyone over the age of 14 not know that it's a felony to take a ballot box home with you, if you are an election official?

18. google news says
"Democratic Party officials, who ran the election, warn that the count could last well into next week -- perhaps until Feb. 15 when they have to certify the results. It took until late Thursday for the Clinton and Obama camps to agree on a process for tallying provisional votes."
