Gathering storm clouds unnoticed: The nascent democracy movement
Edited on Sun Feb-10-08 09:04 AM by mmonk
As party bosses, strategists, and party activists gather in their strategy sessions in both major parties, there are are storm clouds many fail to see. That storm cloud is a growing democracy movement. Party apparatus's of the two parties better take notice and consider carefully. If McCain and Clinton are the perspective nominees, there needs to be a real strategy developing as this will be a general election that may have two independent runs involved, one from the left and one from the right.

As far as our party goes, the frustration most likely runs deeper. The democracy movement from the right only equals around 10% but the number is larger on the left. Many democrats feel alienated after almost a decade of little or no influence on events or their representatives. Let's see if the party hierarchy has recognition capability of it's potential.

1. The numbers are there.
I suspect the leadership will continue to obstruct, until PDA - types are elected in sufficient numbers.

3. There are more candidates running.
The key will be when it is noticed. When noticed, how long will the lag time be? Therein lies the situation. It is getting stronger, but not strong enough to be a factor in direction yet.

5. Nader or whoever the Greens run I suppose.
The problem is I have heard their numbers are swelling. I think what kills them are the requirements for third parties in various states, but they can do damage. From the right, there even may be two tickets in addition to the republicans which may be the saving grace for democrats this time around. Any unity ticket may be a serious threat to both parties, however.
