Mike Huckabee: 'Miracles are still happening'

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/02/mike_huckabee_miracles_are_sti.html

by Mark Silva

Mike Huckabee, facing an apparent mathematical impossibility in the remaining hunt for Republican presidential nominating delegates, said today that he will not “walk off the field.’’

With the lead in Republican nominating delegates that Sen. John McCain of Arizona holds over Huckabee, even running the table in every remaining primary does not offer Huckabee the number of delegates needed to win his party’s nomination. But Huckabee insisted that he will remain in the fight until his party has a nominee.

“I think we have a shot at Virginia. I think we have a shot at Maryland… I think we have a shot at everywhere we go,’’ Huckabee said today, fresh from caucus and primary wins in the Kansas and Louisiana contests on Saturday and a close fight with McCain in Washington.

“To step aside and have a coronation instead of a nomination, that’s the antithesis of everything Republicans stand for,’’ Huckabee said on NBC News’ Meet the Press. “Miracles are still happening,’’ the ordained Baptist minister said. “I still believe in them.’’

1. A Great Uncle of mine, given to the coarse phrase or two, or three,
occasionally dismissed someone here or there as being "crazier than a shit-house rat."

The description has fallen out of favor in our family tree, since he pretty much owned the phrase, and no one since can match him in spellbinding vulgarity.

When I hear Mike Huckabee on the tv or radio, I fondly recall my Great Uncle's phrase. It aptly fits.

2. Yesterday at some college, Huckabee said...

something like. "I wasn't a math major, I majored in miracles." The context was discussion of his lack of delegates or something.

What a thing to say at an academic institution. What an idiot.

3. Huckabee is essentially unemployed. He's enjoying the spotlight
for as long as possible. I am convinced he was in this from the start to become a celebrity, because there was absolutely nothing serious about any of his speeches or proposals. I am grateful his 15 minutes is coming to a close--I hope.
