5. Now, now.....
I'm sure that when you win your Grammy, you'll come up with something much, much better.

11. I know - people don't realize- it's OK
right after I posted that my sister called me from PA to tell me, too.

so, I'm a huge Joni fan but don't have this album. Is it really good?

12. I'm not sure...
I was getting ready to head over to iTunes to check it out. I love Jazz music, and I think Herbie is great. It's just so awesome that the Grammys gave him this award. For so many years it's just been one crappy artist after another (my opinion obviously.)

I'm really sorry, again. I'm usually very good about spoilers.

14. It is good. Some cuts are always better than others, but it's a great celebration of Joni.

15. It's a fantastic album
Of course I'm a long-time jazz fan, Herbie Hancock fan, and Joni Mitchell fan, so this CD is perfect for me. It's cool that Wayne Shorter plays on it, because he's been a frequent sideman to Joni, and he and Herbie have a long history together as well.

This is the first time a jazz artist has won the Album of the Year Grammy since Stan Getz & Astrud Gilberto won it in the Paleolithic Era. Congratulations to a great jazz artist, Herbie Hancock, and to a great composer, lyricist, and performer, Joni Mitchell!

16. Correction
It was João Gilberto & Stan Getz winning the Album of the Year in 1965 for Getz/Gilberto. Getz and Astrud Gilberto won Record of the Year for "Girl from Ipanema," the hit single from the album.

I'm guessing Herbie won this year because the other nominees sucked votes from each other, leaving this great project standing. Only 43 years since the last jazz album was so honored.

At this rate, I guess all the jazz haters can relax until 2051 when another jazz artist wins the Album of the Year Grammy.

Anyway, I hope this prompts more people to check out "River: The Joni Letters."

18. How utterly disappointing. Back to Black was an utterly fantastic album.
Graduation was pretty damn good, too. I'm pretty sure those two split the younger vote, and the older vote (who refused to vote for the tramp or the whiner) went for Herbie.

No knocks on Herbie; I downloaded, listened to, and deleted it after it won. It was pretty darn good. But it wasn't *as* good as Back to Black.
