Why does Hillary think she can win Ohio and Texas?
Why's she so confident, and what do the polls say?

6. I don't know about the polls, but there are LOTS of blue collar workers
in Ohio, and LOTS of Hispanics in Tx. They seem to be her strongest supporters.

9. Blue Collar
The blue collar workers here in WA sure aren't supporting her. They spent the past fifteen years watching their jobs be exported, thanks to NAFTA and other free trade policies that were championed by her husband. Not to mention watching too many of their sons be conned into endless deployments in a shameful war that she voted for. I don't know where this idea that the Clintons are so beloved of the working class came from. They were preferable to Republicans, but that's about it.

11. Heavens sake... the Obama campaign believes she'll probably win OH, TX and PA, so why can't DUers?
I trust "the Bloomberg memo" (the leaked one) more than I trust DU CW.

13. Has Obama announced that he's ceding those states?
Also, the DU CW is that she'll win those states. I am wondering why that is. :)

12. There's not many new polls, but one is fairly recent in Texas
A Texas poll published January 31st had Hillary with 48% of the vote, and Obama with 38%.

The demographics just favor Hillary in those states though. Obama is going to have to cut into Hillary's lead among some core groups of her supporters like Hispanics and poor people to do well.

17. Latinos in Texas and working class folk in Ohio
Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 01:40 AM by jackson_dem
Ohio is a moderate state so you won't find a high percentage of DLC types there. It's black population is at the national average and below the rough 20% mark for Obama. These two things alone, which are crucial ingredients to something like 14 of Obama's 19 wins (the other being proximity to Illinois like Iowa and Missouri) along with a big blue collar population make Hillary the favorite if the election were held today in Ohio. In Texas Latinos help her as does proximity to Arkansas in at least part of Texas. However, she may go the way of Giuliani if she wins nothing the rest of the month.

18. Plus, at least in Ohio, she has the governor and the state
party supporting her, as well as starting out with a good lead in the polls.
