Wisconsin Democrats check in here!
I know we have a state forum, but many ignore it so I'll post this here. We have a primary in about 9 days depending on how you count it. Please tell what part of the state you are in and what you see going on.

I am from both Waukesha and Madison. In Madison I see a lot of Obama activity pretty predictably. I can't speak for Waukesha because we Waukesha Democrats are a quiet bunch. We vote dutifully, but don't wear it on our sleeve.

1. Milwaukee. Just started seeing Obama ads on tv. Nothing much else.
A few local races are getting more attention.

4. Eau Claire here
I have talked to many folks at work and when I'm out socially. Obama is the one most people say they will vote for, out of the ones who will actually vote. Some are indifferent, but there will always be some that just don't care. Have seen the new Obama commercial a couple of times tonight. I honestly believe he will carry Wisconsin by around a 55/45 split.

7. I would imagine Eau Claire would go big for him knowing the area reasonably well.

16. Well, it has become quite a melting pot
There are many more African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans here than I can ever remember. There are tons of low-wage service workers, as well as a decent amount of union workers, many considered to be uneducated, also many college students, as UW-Eau Claire is here, of course. I have some college in my background, but never achieved a degree. As a white, 33 year old union worker without a degree, I'd probably be pegged as a Clinton backer, but I have been hoping for Obama to run for 2 years now and will support him fervently all the way to the WH!

the Green Bay area was conservative.

Just checked and both previous elections Bush won by about 55-45

I also checked and Clinton won in 96 but Bush took it in 92 by 41-36 with Perot at 22

Brown County sometimes votes Democratic. Green Bay itself voted for Kerry.

21. In today's Milw. Journal Sentinel
they discussed the candidates' prospects in Wisconsin. Obama is favored because of these elements:

Wisconsin has a big independent vote, and Obama does better with them than Clinton. They were 29% of the Dem vote in 04.

Latino vote is very small--3%--which is bad for Clinton.

Youth vote: Could be very big for Obama In 2006 they were 17% of the vote, highest in the nation. Watch it go higher this year.

Wisconsin has a history of backing the "insurgent" candidate. Gary Hart, George McGovern, Jesse Jackson, Jerry Brown.

Factors favoring Clinton: A possibly large turnout, and the Union vote.

So we shall see.
