Baldwin, Lawton call for Obama to join Clinton in debate

By Scott Bauer
The Associated Press

MADISON — U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin and Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton called on Sen. Barack Obama to debate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in Wisconsin before the state’s primary on Feb. 19.

Clinton has accepted an invitation to debate at Marquette University, while Obama has not yet replied.

Baldwin and Lawton held a conference call today saying Wisconsin voters need to see the two candidates debate to help them decide who to vote for next week.

Obama’s spokesman Dan Leistikow said his schedule is still being put together.

But, he also said it will be impossible for the two candidates to debate in every state, and they’ve already met 18 times with two more debates planned.

Obama wants to spend as much time as he can meeting Wisconsin voters in advance of the primary, Leistikow said. Obama is scheduled to make his first stop in Wisconsin this year on Tuesday with a rally at the 17,000-seat Kohl Center.

Clinton isn’t scheduled to be in Wisconsin until Saturday night for a Democratic Party dinner in Milwaukee. But spokeswoman Carly Lindauer said she expects Clinton to attend a variety of events before the primary.

Obama also confirmed that he will attend the Democratic dinner on Saturday.

There are no scheduled appearances yet for the Republican’s presumptive nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain, or any of the other Republican candidates who remain in the race.

Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, had three stops planned today in Milwaukee and Madison. She also was scheduled to appear in Eau Claire and La Crosse on Tuesday.

23. I'm sure Hillary doesn't mind if he turns it down
It would most likely give her an extra hour of local air time. :)

2. Obama has to consult with his more senior counsel for direction on this one.
Without consultation, he is willing to unilaterally bomb Pakistan, but now he can't decide whether to participate in a debate?

The voters want more - not less.

26. Only worried that he is indecisive when it come to his ass/life and that
at the drop a hat (and without thinking thru the consequences), he would pre-emptively bomb another country.
Not fit to be Commander-In-Chief.
