Listening to Ed Schultz being bombarded by people defending Shuster's suspension
and making fun of those of us who support Obama. They are demanding that FL and MI be seated.

Today I think he is doing amazingly well in fending off these attacks.

There is no excuse for David Shuster being suspended.

It is overkill.

David Shuster is a scapegoat. He was used by her campaign to make a point.

12. And if he had called Senator Obama a
pimp instead of Senator Clinton? Do you think you'd still feel that way or are you one of those who is trying to say it's just a new slang word that we just don't get? He deserves the suspension.

4. yeah, i am listening to it also...
Notice that the discussion of the people, "their ipods, " "the inspired kids" nothing about the issues. The callers have this mindset that the 18-29 group should have no say, or that they can not think, they are just inspired. The people i talk to are just as or more informed about the policies of the two candidates then most of the older people i talk to. It is kind of sad.

24. the talking point is that we...
are just inspired by him. I do not see that way, i think we have moved on from the Bush and the Republican bashing. We know bush sucks, we know the republicans have failed in every aspect, we knew that back in 2004 election.

Personally, i hear Clinton speak and i hear Kerry 2004 with a little economy and health care thrown in. We know what the problems are, we know what needs to get done, we want somebody who is going to get past the petty Bush and Republican bashing and get stuff done.

We want to believe that the American that we learned about in our History textbooks is true, the problem is that the past 16 years does not tell the same story. We are not cynical yet, hopefully we will not get to that point.

16. he makes a good point how words change over time.
I think what he said was dumb. When i was watching it live, i heard him say the pimped out comment, and i was like "that was not going to go over well." I knew what he was saying, and i didn't take it the way some people are taking it, but i knew it was going to be a problem for him. I think for people to take it out of context and make it as if he was saying it in a sexual way is wrong. But that is the problem, it has different meanings to different generations, that is why i knew it would be a problem.

As far as the show goes, and i do not know if you have watched it before, you would have never questioned the name of the show before this. Nothing is wrong with it.

22. I don't question the MTV show. It is their right to call it by that name.
But if the word is forbidden....I was just making a point. I don't watch MTV, and I was not criticizing the show. I don't like this suspending people if they offend. There would be no end to it if we start it.

6. Agreed.
What he said was out of line. But compared to the garbage that comes out of people's mouths on the news networks, hardly an isolated incident.

Chelsea's great. Her family has fiercely protected her privacy over the years and I respect that deeply. However, they have now chosen, or she has chosen, to be active publicly in the campaign. She's an adult and once that choice was made, they have to be willing to take a little heat. Politics is rarely pretty.

msnbc policy calls for a suspension with the 2nd offence.

the suspension has nothing to do the clintions.

11. while I didn't know this was his first mistake...
and I think firing would be too harsh, I believe he was rightly suspended. But earlier that day, Joe Scarborough (R-dead-intern-on-his-office-floor-but-we-should-ignore-it-because-he-is-an-"R") called into his own show and tore Schuster a new one. So I am wondering if there isn't an underlying thread here.

a repeat offender when it comes to less then professional behavior. Though I would agree with others that he's not nearly as bad as some that are still on air.

Hillary tolerates it when its directed at herself or Bill. But that's the limit.

13. This doesn't bode well for a possible Clinton administration
With all the shit that's been said about the chimp, his ugly mother, his spineless father, his zombie wife and girls gone wild daughters, I can't remember even him whining to get some reporter fired.

If Hillary's skin is this thin she ain't "tough" enough for the job regardless of how much she claims she is.

15. My take on Shuster
I did not weigh in here during the initial blowup of this issue because it was all just so silly. That and my opinion probably pisses off both sides. What Shuster said was in no way insensitive or offensives (this is the part to piss off Clinton supporters). On the other hand, it was quite inappropriate (and here the part to piss off others). Let me explain, most of us are familiar with expressions such as "in bed with" and "has X over a barrel". Both of these expressions taken literally are sexual in nature, and would be quite offensive. But if a reporter says that Bush is in bed with the oil companies, or that Reid has the Republicans over a barrel on some issue, no one thinks twice about it. The reason is these expressions have gained common acceptance among the audience that is hearing them. Using "pimped out" like he did, Shuster misjudged his audience. This expression is quite common among younger audiences, and if some correspondent for Comedy Central, MTV, etc had used it I do not think anyone would have mentioned anything about it. Personally, since I am more used to hearing the "pimped out" expression than I am something like "over a barrel" it actually seems far less offensive to me, but I am 30. For an MSNBC audience that is by and large not used to the expression other than in its literal sense, what Shuster said was inappropriate. Now the question is, what is the correct response? Maybe they should ship him off to Bravo for awhile so his audience will more fit with his language, might make him think more about what he says.

Who chooses the words that make or end a career? Fox News people are outrageous, yet she will debate on that network.

Who gets to pick the criteria?

25. I think Schuster should have been sentenced to
a full month of cleaning up after Tweety's spittle-laced tirades. If that didn't convince him that he did something wrong, he would officially be hopeless. But since Schuster is usually a very good political reporter, suspending him indefinitely just punishes the viewers.
