Obama supporters protest Bill Clinton appearance in Virginia.
Pauly Johnson said she and her husband like Hillary Clinton, just not as much as her competition.
“It’s the spirit of the dialectic,” Chris Johnson said.

snip/

The Johnsons had walked the perimeter of the gathering line earlier in the day, but as the room filled, they took up positions on the sidewalk in front of the building, quietly holding their signs. Contrasting them, not more than a quarter of a football field away, a handful of protesters, some of them wearing Obama stickers that matched the Johnsons’, held up homemade signs reading “Deny Deny Deny” and “Democracy left a bad taste in my mouth” and evoked the impeachment of Bill Clinton and his wife’s stance on abortion. That group, unlike the Johnsons, was engaged in a running exchange, sometimes heated, with the waiting crowd.

Eric Vanover, one of those protesting the Clinton appearance, said “the only reason I came here was to address the Monica situation.”

Jack Cole, carrying a “Vote for Hillary” sign, joined Adam Hamilton in a counter-protest of Vanover and the others.

“All they’re doing is trying to trash Bill Clinton,” Hamilton said. “They’re making jokes … and don’t seem to care about the issues.”

i've seen the clintons trashed as bad as any neocon right here on du the last week or so.
ya know not supporting hillary is a personal choice...but slagging the clintons as bad or worse than the repubs is over the line. the clintons have taken more abuse from the rw than anybody...they fought as weel they could and have been fairly successful. it seems to go beyond just disagreements in the candidates....jeebus it's almost like they were named bush

31. No Controversial Issues?
Well, I'm not certain I'd agree with you there, Ozark, when the three major bones of contention seem to be pro and anti-war efforts, minimum political experience for the POTUS, and universal health care.

But as regards the protesters, the problem all candidates face is: you can't hand-pick your supporters.

And all of them apparently have their troglodytes.

28. here's why its deceptive
The article doesn't say that the protesters were Obama supporters. It said that there were a handful of protesters, some wearing Obama stickers. The main thrust of the article was how civil the crowd was and how people wanted to hear Clinton speak. The paper apparently made no effort to find out if the protesters were in fact Obama supporters and, given the pro-life tenor of their comments, I think its safe to say that they weren't really Obama supporters, just posers.

But you conveniently left a lot of that out and created a threat title that is quite misleading.

34. The Johnsons claim to be Obama supporters.
They are at a Bill Clinton appearance, holding signs, protesting his appearance. Others are there with stickers like theirs, holding signs, protesting Bill Clinton's appearance. Unfortunately, the title bar at DU doesn't allow me the room to put all of this in the heading.

I think the title fits just fine. It's up to the reader to read the article and come to his or her own conclusions.

42. Your reading comprehension needs work: the Johnsons weren't "protesting"
Here's how the article describes the Johnsons:
"Chris Johnson and his wife, Pauly, brought their two children to the center. All wore Obama stickers and carried Obama signs. Pauly Johnson said they’d come to serve as a reminder of the Illinois senator’s presidential bid for the White House.
Chris Johnson said he was proud of what Bill Clinton had done during his eight years in office, but he wanted to show support for his candidate “because he’s the best person for the job.”
Pauly Johnson said she and her husband like Hillary Clinton, just not as much as her competition."

The article goes on to contrast the Johnsons, who carried their Obama signs, with the "protesters" who had anti Clinton signs.

Yes, your post was deceptive. And so is your attempted defense of it.

THere is a big difference between holding a sign supporting a candidate and protesting the appearance of another candidate by holding signs directed at that candidate. You know that, but just chose to ignore/distort it.

Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 04:56 PM by Maddy McCall
When they post the photos, I'll believe it. The freeps at Free Republic never hide their identity. I seriously doubt that they would wear Obama stickers.

And they always post the photos. When you've got photos of Freepers with Obama stickers at this event, that will be sufficient proof that it's freepers.

In the meantime, I see so much nasty stuff at DU, very similar to the signs that were held in protest of Clinton's visit, that I don't find it a stretch at all to believe that these were Obama supporters.
