I'm really surprised that Hillary would say us caucus goers don't represent the electorate
Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 05:05 PM by RiverStone

CNN 2/11/08
<snip>

Clinton has publicly dismissed the caucus voting system since before Super Tuesday, seeking to lower expectations heading into a series of contests that played to Obama's advantage. His campaign features what many consider to be a stronger and more dedicated grassroots organization than Clinton's.

Noting that "my husband never did well in caucus states either," Clinton argued that caucuses are "primarily dominated by activists" and that "they don't represent the electorate, we know that."

Sorry Hillary, I did not know that.

What I saw in my precinct caucus this weekend were many young voters, some 17 but turning 18 before the election, who had never participated before - who felt inspired by Obama more than any politician they have ever heard; I saw many elderly voters - folks who needed people to make pathways though the standing room only crowd - just to get a chair so they could speak for a minute about a new direction they see Obama taking the country in; I saw people who had always preached republican rule - people from our small town optometrist office who swore they would never vote for a Democrat, in line waiting to caucus for Obama or Clinton - because they are so damn sick of what Shrub has done to our country; I saw teachers, plumbers, carpenters, small business owners, and even many folks on the fence who simply felt compelled to vote for a Democrat because they see in Obama a leadership quality that has not been seen in a generation.

It's not a cult.

It's not a bunch of activists.

And some people Hillary, were there for you.

It's regular folks like you and I - who want to express an opinion and a choice. I caucused for Obama - I'm not an activist - I am a citizen that cares and I want my voice and vote to count.

Hillary made a big mistake discounting all of us here in WA and everywhere else, who waited in line for an hour or more, to simply exercise our right to caucus.

We ARE THE ELECTORATE! Maybe not all of the electorate, but we are who she is speaking of....

She made a big mistake today discounting the people from all walks who simply wanted to be part of the political process. :patriot:

2. Seriously, Hillbots.... Help me out here?
Why in God's name would anybody prefer DIEBOLD machines to caucuses? Why are you so desperate to hold on to the policies which have divided and downgraded this country for the last 28 years??

Who the Hell are you people who want to remain on this sure road to the destruction of whatever is left that is good about America? And at this point, that is sadly very little.

But that is not irreversible. Not yet. We have a chance to stop it. Let's not waste it.

3. Yes, even the meatball journalist from the Richmond-Times Dispatch on CSPAN this AM
tried to make even us Primary Virginia Obama voters as "Urban,Upscale and Black."

Well, I'm over-educated but neither upscale nor black.

Yes, this middle-aged, white woman is getting tired of being pigeon-holed. :(

4. She's right ...
Just like DU doesn't reflect the population at large.
Get over your selves.
Spend a day or 2 canvassing ... your eyes will open a little wider.

5. No she is not...
This discussion is not about the nuances of caucus vs primaries. Both systems have their plus and minuses; but ultimately, just getting off one's ass and being part of the process is HUGE.

Hillary would be far better off not rationalizing away all the caucus results and simply say something like: Obama is a tough competitor, congrats on his victories, I look forward to the battle ahead in TX, OH or where ever.

Her statement further suggests that according to the "Clintons" (she added Bill into the mix) - that it was not ever that big a deal for Bill either.

In a slight but obvious way, she insulted every single caucus participant - including those that voted for her.
