Not MY first choice, but it would lead to an Obama landslide in Nov.

4. Actually, I think Powell would be an interesting choice for Obama
Obama/Powell would be formidable. Very formidable.

As for McCain, I think a dark horse would be Petraius (or however you spell his name.)

12. I agree with Obama/Powell
A "grownup" ticket -- two insightful, patient men. I'd feel safe with them running things (no unnecessary wars and if force is necessary, it would be used judiciously and effectively).

35. Obama would lose my vote if he put that house negro on the ticket
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 08:28 PM by boricua79
I'm sorry, but I'm STILL very bitter about everything Powell did during the Bush administration. And, true to my avatar, Malcolm was real clear about the division lines in the black community. So, you may disagree with my terminology, but I think Malcolm was right. And Powell proved himself one by doing Bush's bidding and coming off as his lapdog.

For those a little shocked by my word usage, consider the source:

19. Barbara Boxer?!
No chance. Even a lot of CA democrats find her annoying - rather like Nancy Pelosi, what a letdown.

If he was to pick a female running amte I'd prefer one of the Dem governors, like Janet Napolitano. But I think he might be accused of relying too much on identity politics in the GE, so there's a 60% chance you're going to end up with a white male VP instead, though not John Edwards.

I've spent several months thinking about it and I can't come to a firm conclusion - I think we will all be a little srurpised by his choice if he becomes the nominee.

Barbara has intervened for personal friends of mine fighting with the Federal government. She is a tremendous
asset and would be an exceptional VP candidate. She is also very popular among the Latino community of CA.

10. Powell would not be a good choice for McCain
African Americans would rather have a President than a Vice President, plus they like Dem policies more than Repub policies.

The military people who would not vote any more for McCain with Powell on the ticket.

The fundamentalists would not vote any more for McCain with Powell on the ticket.

In other words, Powell won't gain votes for McCain.

Clark is too closely identified with Hillary to be on Obama's ticket. I don't see Obama as a forgiving person.

14. Powell is McCain's best choice, but I doubt he'd take it.
McCain will be running to the right by mid October. He won't be able to hold the middle against either Clinton or Obama. He'll have to run to the base. Suspecting this now, he'll be looking for a mid-South conservative or a Midwesterner.

43. Well, basically.
It's a huge difference, to be sure. But Ron Paul and Barack Obama are similar in a lot of ways. Paul is a libertarian, meaning that he is liberal on social issues. He opposed the Iraq War and is in line with Obama on civil liberties. Both draw huge support from younger voters.

Paul has complemented Obama's positions on civil liberties, but he is waaay on the other side of Obama as far as limited government goes. Obama would probably cut corporate welfare, etc. but Paul would cut say, the Department of Education.

45. Clark is the perfect choice for Obama... balances him
geographically, politically (Clark is a Clinton camper), racially and in terms of defense and foreign policy knowledge.

Powell would be a terrible choice for anyone, as the public will remember the bill of goods he sold to the United Nations about WMDs in Iraq.

I would guess McCain would be pressured by the party to have a Southern white staunch conservative on the ticket who supports anti-immigration to the hilt.
