Here is a completely crazy idea: Offer Huckabee Secretary of Agriculture or Transportation
Huckabee's politics are not horrible aside from the, you know, Jesusy stuff. He's extremely populist.

If I were Obama or Hillary - before the convention - I would send a back-channel message to him letting him know that I could find a role for him in my Cabinet. Just not in a position where he would have much impact on social policy.

And then I would leak the offer.

I wonder how he would respond to that. I wounder how the Evangeical Right would.

I mean, he's a former governor so he is certainly qualified to run a federal agency. I wouldn't let him near social policy. It would show that I am open to reaching across the aisle. His economic policies are - at times - closer to a Dems' than a Repubs. And if he was corrupt, I could always say, "I let a Republican into my administration and look what happened...."

11. So...keep him in check
He can't push for a Constituional Amendment if he is working for me.
He can't rally Evangelicals against me if he is working for me.
I would have final say in all his policies anyway.

What is the danger?

If McCain was the loser, I'd offer him the VA.

6. Yep, you're right...
A completely crazy idea. ANY Cabinet role would involve social policy in one way or another.

15. Huckabee is a bad idea, however..
Obama would probably have one or two moderate Republicans in his cabinet.

18. I don't think Susan Collins would leave the Senate though.
I would happily pluck one of the Liberal Republicans for a job if I thought I could gain a Dem. But I don't think any of them would leave the cushy job.

I would never let Rudy near my cabinet. And he loves gays and cheating on his wife (wives).

16. Like I said, it's an out there idea
But I think every Cabinet should have someone from the other team in it. And I don't want any of the other loons who ran.

And, let's face it, there are some pretty unimportant cabinet posts.

Clinton made a Republican the Secretary of Defense. I would never offer them Defense or State or Commerce or HHS or the AG.

Transportation or Agriculture? I think those positions exist soley so the secretary can eventually be indicted.
