What an amazing primary season it has been so far. To those who say it has been grueling, I say
you should be savoring it! It's unlikely we will soon witness a primary season that goes through most of the states before it seems decided. I'll warrant it will also be quite a while before we see both parties battling it out with a totally open field of candidates.
I wish I'd done a better job of jotting down my thoughts and emotions during these last few months. For all the candidates and many of their supporters it has been filled with moments of dread as well as exhileration. It has illuminated some of the inner workings of the process of picking both parties' nominee.
This campaign season, history is being made unlike what many of us have seen in decades. To this I would add
for too long I have feared to hope. After 2000 I was dismayed. After Dean capsized I was crushed. For much of January I tried to not become emotionally invested in the candidate I saw as best suited for my party's nomination. The power and sincerity with which my candidate speaks makes this impossible.
I will dwell no longer on my fear of history repeating itself. Like many other ordinary Americans, I am realizing that our taking a stand for change will not be in vain, and this still unfolding election year will be a story we will tell to our children with fierce pride.
