1. turnout numbers aren't a death knell for the Republican Party in Virginia
http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/dp-local_totals_0213feb13,0,1875370.story

In all, 919,565 Virginians voted for Democrats, while 446,554 voted for Republicans.

--snip--

The state's primary turnout numbers aren't a death knell for the Republican Party in Virginia, but GOP officials clearly noticed the momentum.

6. Please note that Kerry garnered 45% of the vote in 2004 GE. WE (democrats) can take VIRGINIA ! ! !
It would be nothing less than historic if a democrat wins Virginia in this upcoming GE.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/10/AR2008021002487_pf.html

Although it hasn't supported a Democratic nominee for president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, the state has been turning more Democratic, especially in the Washington suburbs. Party leaders believe the Democrats could carry the state if the nominee can solidify the party's expanding base in Northern Virginia and reach out to Virginia's many rural voters.

2. From the comments they seem to be all democrats in my polling place
Perhaps the Republicans were very quiet. My county in Maryland is very liberal and Democratic so I would expect to see more Democrats anyway.

3. In our "less than heavily" congested part of Northern Virginia,16 people were in line at 6 AM
when my husband went to cast his vote yesterday. The vast majority of people who commute to D.C. for employment (aka Beltway Bandits) vote either at O'dark thirty (6 AM) or after 5 PM. No statistics but our area enjoyed, IMO, "moderate" turn-out. BTW happy to report that the only "live body" outside (legal distance respected) our voting place, was an Obama supporter handing out flyers. :-)

4. When I went it was really quiet
but it looks like turnout was pretty high in my county...

52,580 democratic votes (50% Barack, 43% Hillary).

35,552 republican votes (41% McCain, 33% Romney, 12% Huckabee).

There are 421 K people in the county, 25% of whom are too young to vote, so 88 thousand is a pretty good turnout. :)

8. I wouldn't know...it was as small town
There were maybe 10 people in the gymnasium where I voted, so it wasn't overflowing. But then again, I voted in a very small town.

10. Gymnasium? wow - larger than where I vote
small town, 1 precinct. Vote in a room at the Volunteer Fire Department station. 2 machines, use to be the old lever type, now gone to touch-screen

most I have ever waited in line to vote was maybe 15 minutes. However, based on all the reports of record turnouts I suspect the wait will be much longer in april when we have our primary

11. I waited 5 minutes
literally, just two people ahead of me in line, 3 or 4 voting at the booths, and 2 or 3 exiting when I came in. And I went after work, at 6:00, so I expected everyone to be there. It was quick. Less than 4 minutes at the booth, and I was out.

I was so glad to have voted Obama.

9. A mostly Democratic turnout in Arlington VA
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 07:44 AM by nitpicker
In my precinct, I went in in mid-afternoon, just as the ice storm was starting to attack the cars. There were two people in line in front of me, and when I got to the head of the line one of the two checkers took a break, so I had to wait for a few minutes for their party substitute to show up. This allowed me time to read the checkoff numbers showing that 607 people had signed up for the Democratic primary and 165 for the Republican one.

By the time I finished hitting and cancelling all the buttons before voting ((the touchscreen worker kept trying to look in on me, oh for the days of the curtained booths!), four people were lined up at the registration checkers.

There was just about no comment- the people who usually stand outside the no-soliciting zone had all vanished, no doubt due to the weather conditions.

13. I waited until around 9 am to vote and there was no one in line
A fairly steady stream of people were coming and going (including Senator Webb, who had just finished voting when I walked in), but there was no wait. (Northern Virginia)

Hillary rocked the vote in Florida.
