My guess is, some mom/dad/parental unit dressed their kid up and took him to the rally with roses because they really like Clinton. Now, they have a picture of their son with Hillary Clinton.

It can only be considered pandering if Senator Clinton bought the outfit, scanned the crowd til she saw a kid that would fit it and said, "Hey, grab him! Quick, get him into this and hand him the roses!"

(By the by, were I the type that could deal with crowds and could guarantee an opportunity, I would take my 8 yo son to an Obama rally to get a picture of the two of them together.)

I don't quite understand. Other than folks right here in the good ol' US of A, who's going to see this as pandering? Moreover, who will see it as more than a campaign rally where the obligatory cute kid is involved?

Everything IS global, and I imagine there are going to be ,more people that go "Awwwwwwwwwwww..." than those that won't.

I think cute wins over every time.

46. I guess our brains are different
what is the context?

Is this a planned photo-op or a serendipitous moment caught on film.
Did HRC arrange this moment or was it spontaneous.
Is this one of many folks who gave her flowers or the only one?
Is this boy caucasian, black or hispanic, and how do you know?

It seems like you have constructed a story in your own mind from one picture and are forming judgements based on what you think you see.

Again, lacking context, how can you conclude anything (fairly)?

talk about lack of context--NOTHING is unplanned and spontaneous at least it shouldn't be. They SHOULD have 98% planned out but then if they had done that (or at least had a "if anyone does last past Iowa and New Hampshire" PlanB) they wouldn't be in the situation they are in.

She was in Texas, with an enormous Latino population, and the kid was dressed in culturally traditional clothing. His parents probably wanted a picture with the Senator.

All I know is, in Texas, you actually do see people dressed like this, as well as cowboys dressed as actual cowboys. It's like, normal down there. It looks weird to those of us on the East Coast, but I really think this is par for the course for Texas. And that's where she was. She can't control every camera around her and what they choose to capture and disseminate.

I was watching this on MSNBC last night. The kid stood there quite a while for photos, then some guy yanked his arm and pretty much dragged him off the stage. I guess the kid had served his purpose and once he'd done the photo-op it was time to hustle him away. He never once seemed to enjoy the experience or have any awareness of who she is.

And yeah, I've been to Texas.
