Unfortunately Obama has a HUGE problem in Texas
I went to an Obama volunteer organizing meeting last night. Our guy has a HUGH problem here. The room was crowded, but perhaps 1/3 of the people in the room didn't know much about the delegate selection process. There were over 100 people packed into this tight space. At least 10 people I heard or spoke with said they didn't get our arcane two-step delegate process because they were voting for the very first time!

Then with all the energy and zeal in the room, it was hard for us to hear each other. Disaster! People were getting hit by the door everytime someone new came into the room. The tall folks in the front were nice enough to let some of the shorter ladies shoulder up to the front row to see the demonstration on how to participate in a precinct caucus, but that didn't help me much--fortunately I'm an old pro, but still a bunch of people were still asking questions about what to do by the end of the meeting.

Next, to add insult to injury, they ran out of blank spots on the sign up lists for phone banking, canvasing, and precinct organizing. The sheets they had got filled up too quickly and we had to wait for them to run off more sheets. Horrors! Everyone was smiling and milling about and laughing with each other, but obviously I was in full scale panic mode--they ran out of yard signs and the guy who had them left them in his truck!

Finally the evening ended in a complete nuclear meltdown of conviviality and joy... I looked and looked but couldn't find even one damn Che flag! I am all out of hope because that Obama character is hoarding it all to himself. Damn you, hopemonger, damn you!!

8. Interesting - but that's what the campaign is for
And I understand that the Obama campaign has an incredible ground game that includes spending a good part of the last couple of weeks leading up to a primary working closely with various grassroots organizations to educate voters on the process and getting everything in gear. If they do it too early, it's wasted, since people drift away, forget, etc.

9. The Obama campaign in Texas better get on top of this crisis -- and fast! --
or it will engulf the entire process and sweep him to victory there on March 4th.

I hate to be an alarmist...

10. God I hope they can get past this. I was almost drowning in hope.
Don't even get me started on how sore my palms got from applauding every time they announced results from the Chesapeake primaries.

11. LOL! Plus, don't forget the energy drain. Exultation and inspiration zap
the body's supply of energy, leaving one vulnerable to just about anything.

15. Equally as bad of a problem in Madison last night as well
When you have about 18,000 people standing in snow with temperatures just above zero degrees for almost two hours waiting to get in when there were plenty of warm bars and restaurants around is a serious problem for the Obama campaign. Why can't the campaign supply these people with personal heaters, hand warmers, large heating fans and perhaps new winter coats while they waited in line for Obama to speak.

Then when they all got in the venue, it was so darn crowded. There was hardly any room to stand comfortably.

:hi:

18. Good point. And look at the sort of people Obama's events are
drawing in the first place -- standing in cold temps to hear him speak while those warm bars and restuarants' seats remain empty -- IN A RECESSIONAL, FEEBLE ECONOMY -- and they don't give a damn, asserting that a candidacy promising meaningful reform is more important.

This observer is appalled.

20. My friends in Lawrence said the local caucus had to be moved to a larger venue
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 10:38 AM by Mabus
because they one they had originally arranged (a movie theater/live performance theater) was too small and there was a fear about enough parking places. He called and told me that it had been moved to the fairgrounds.

edited to add that this was Kansas.

26. Bucky, I was there too
It gets worse. Today, I dropped by at lunch. You know, the slow time. There were folks entering data, getting visibility material, I mean, it totally screwed up the staffers' lunch plans to have to stop, have them sign in, explain that the doubled number of computers were all being used, then more people came in, always with questions that had to be answered, and before we could answer them more people came in. Especially hard was trying to keep track of all the folks who are staging get togethers, etc.

Life is hard. And good, too.

And I guarantee Barack will do his thing in the state and take care of that difference right quick and in a hurry. They feel he most definitely has a shot at the title. I hope they are right.

45. Hope? Bah.
Who needs hope when you can vote for an ancient, bitter, explosive, "straight-talker" who was against torture before he was for it?

You Obama fans had better come to your senses and abandon your silly hopes and dreams. Come over to the Republican side where we are cold and bitter and where your "hope" turns to ashes, gets into your eyes and stings really bad...
