How I think/hope the rest of the primary season will go

Barring some unseen events happening.. Once all the primaries are over with Obama will end up with ~ a 200 delegate lead over Hillary and will have gained more net popular votes.. I believe Hillary to be a smart politic an.. and hope she realizes that UNLESS she ends up with more delegates and a popular vote win she should not try to force a victory via super delegates.. cause if she does it would be a hollow victory and leave a lot of anger and resentment.. Instead she should congratulate a rising star who caught lighting in a bottle and JUMP up on the Obama bandwagon and encourage all who voted for her ( like me ) to join her.. She can then resume her job in the senate .. maybe try for a leadership post.. and help Obama ( cause he will NEED all he can get ) get bills thru the senate...

One thing to Obama supporters.. STOP asking Hillary to bow out.. let events take there course.. a lot of people have contributed and support Hillary.. Having her just give up BEFORE all the primaries are over with would hurt the party and ultimately Obama's chances.. Let the process complete itself.. If Obama is to win ( and I will be SHOCKED if he does not).. let it be a complete true win..

1. And if Hillary somehow pulls this thing out...
...I can only hope that Obama will do the same. I for one recognize the real goal here is to get a Dem in the White House. Hillary or Obama (My personal choice) will do the job.

2. If Obama does not win CONVINCINGLY, he will lose.
I do not believe that he has the delegate/super-delegate support to eke out a close victory. He will have to do better than 65/35 to win, period. The DLC/Clinton "machine" will see to it.

3. What the HELL is the Clinton Machine???
Super deletes are all politicians.. and most of them are pretty smart ones. and ALL of them want a president next year who is a democrat.. Sheesh cut these people some slack!!! They KNOW what would happen if they rig this thing to "STEAL" a win from Obama and give it to Hillary if she does NOT come out of the primary season with more delegates/total primary voters.. I think Hillary knows as well.. A hollow victory with a divided, resentful party is a victory NIT worth having.. Now IF we comer out of this with the two nearly tied ( say a difference of +- 25 delegates and/or +- 2% in total votes ) THEN the party may be screwed .. hehe .. I have NO clue how to resolve that with out pissing off a LOT of people..

5. Actually, no. Super delegates (I like your "super deletes" better)...
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 10:04 AM by AlertLurker
are NOT all politicians. MOST of the 800 or so superdelegates are just active members/delegates from their constituencies/counties...Here's a list:

http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegate-list.html

Scroogle "Clinton DLC machine" for an answer to your first question. I cannot adequately explain without having my feet burst into flame.
Scroogle "Clintonista DLC machine" for an even more slanted view.

The DLC-Clinton machine has already captured nearly twice the number of super-delegate endorsements than Obama. If he cannot pull off decisive victories in the remaining Primary states, in my opinion, he's cooked.

As to your other point, that "A hollow victory with a divided, resentful party is a victory NIT worth having...:"

If you believe THAT, you will believe ANYTHING. This is a race for POTUS, remember? The highest office in the land? For ALL the marbles? For the Clintons and the DLC, any victory is a victory, PERIOD. "A divided, resentful party" is what we ALREADY HAVE. Nobody gives a shit about HOW hollow it was or HOW it was accomplished or HOW BADLY Obama gets fucked by them. Sheep have short memories.

6. Maybe I an naive
BUT NOBODY wants 4 more years of republicans... Not Hillary, not the DLC.. IF Hillary gets the nomination due to a hollow victory, divides the party and loses to McCain.. They will FOREVER go down in democratic circles as the biggest losers of all time.. NO ONE wants THAT label.. NO ONE is that power hungry ... ( by the way.. I will be happy to eat may words if I am proved wrong)...

7. If "NOBODY wants 4 more years of republicans..."
Then the Democratic Party would have some different candidates left. The two candidates left now are FAR closer to the corporatists and the Republican Party than any of the others who ran against them. Edwards, Richardson, Biden, Dodd, Kucinich, Gravel, anyone?

While I agree that if HRC wins via superdelegate "selection," it will be a hollow victory, I really don't see the party being any further divided than it was in 2000 or 2004. If Kerry wouln't stand up for himself in 2004, why would he do so now, for Obama's sake? Same with the rest of them.

Politicians are pragamatists, for the most part, and they like to WIN. The Clintons and their DLC enablers are incredibly PERSUASIVE, too. That's one reason why they have such popularity within the party - Democratic politicians remember how good it was to be in CHARGE, and they know how badly IT SUCKS when you are NOT. Most Democratic politicians ALSO understand that promises and favours stand a better chance of being properly repaid if your guy wins the Presidency.

Still, all is not lost - I believe that barring a "Dean Scream" or some incredibly persuasive "Swiftboating," either Obama or Clinton will beat McCain, even if he runs with Mittens or the Huckster to gain the Conservative vote.

4. I am all for that it is her decision to leave when she wishes. Anything else is undemocratic.
