Hillary Sinks in Potomac - WaPo
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 09:35 AM by rndmprsn
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/13/AR2008021300758.html

Hillary Clinton lived in Washington for eight years, in a very large home with a big back yard and a great view. She was a local figure as first lady. She made plenty of appearances in the District, the Maryland suburbs and Northern Virginia, while Obama hadn't even gotten himself elected to the Illinois legislature. She should have had the home-field advantage.

Instead, she got walloped.
The easy explanation is that there are a lot of African Americans in the District and Maryland. But Virginia? A big NASCAR state that has tended to elect moderate Democrats such as Chuck Robb, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine? Clinton should have been at least competitive, and she got creamed.

The suspense lasted until one second after 7 o'clock, when all the cable networks simultaneously projected Obama the winner in Virginia, which was supposed to be Hillary's best shot. And exit polls showing that Obama carried white men in the commonwealth underscored the depth of Clinton's dilemma. (Obama would have clinched Maryland at 8 p.m. had the sleet not prompted a judge to extend voting for another 90 minutes.)

...One other thought: Does Hillary ever acknowledge setbacks? As she pumped up a crowd in El Paso, demanding a higher minimum wage, ignoring her Potomac wipeout, she just seemed in denial. Wouldn't it have been better to take note of her tough day and vow to fight on? I'm just sayin'.

1. "Does Hillary ever acknowledge setbacks?"
No she doesn't. It is because her campaign is like a cult. :sarcasm:

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

2. Wasn't Virginia part of the "big state" strategy?
I'd swear that only a couple of weeks ago, they were talking about the "big state" strategy in which Hillary planned to win Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

5. No plan B?
One more similarity between her and Bush.

And I'm not talking about RU-486.

6. how many times have bush appointees ignored real science?
and why have so many in the senate been so quiet, so often? RU-486, EPA decisions, strip mining, oil in Alaska, voting rights, and so much more.

12. I was referring to the lack of a Plan B in the war, not RU486.
I would find it hard to believe that Hillary, with her track record on choice, would have opposed RU486 and wanted to make sure I wasn't accused of saying that she had.

4. I don't know why they even had Hillary on teevee last night - the night belonged to Obama.
He won all 3 primary/caucuses, after all.

She is a good clapper, though.
Have to admit that.

11. Hillary needed free TV time because her campaign is strapped for cash.

9. According to Hillary's gameplan, they were supposed to be welcoming her campaign as liberators
The "war" was only going to last a month, and then everyone would bring flowers to lay before her path as she came to their state.
