Clinton: Still no congratulations for Obama
I'll just say this, the Hillary folks flipped out when Obama allegedly snubbed her at the State of the Union, but I bet they remain silent on this:

February 12, 2008
Clinton: Still no congratulations for Obama
Posted: 10:30 PM ET

EL PASO, Texas (CNN) – For the second election night in a row, Hillary Clinton failed to acknowledge or congratulate Barack Obama after he won the day in dominating fashion.

On Tuesday in El Paso, hours after Virginia had been called for Obama, she stuck to her “Texas campaign kickoff” message and did not stray from an energetic, Lone Star-themed stump speech. She did mention Obama by name, only to chide his health care plan.

On Saturday night in Richmond, Virginia, Clinton spoke to a crowd of thousands at the state’s annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner, but she ignored Obama’s quartet of blowout primary and caucus wins that day as well (Obama also won the Maine caucuses the next day).

The courtesy of conceding a primary or caucus loss — and then congratulating your opponent — is by no means required. But it has become standard practice during campaign season.

1. More obsessive non issues
This is the same thing the republicans did to Gore and Kerry. Micro-obsessed over every little detail or hypothetical then smeared them with it.

4. Normally I would agree about htis being a non-issue. . .
. . .but the Hillary camp has championed the non-issues when it works to their benefit. I guess they want to have in both ways.

13. Pardon me, but Kerry was very gracious at every step of the way.
It would go against Kerry's bones not to congratulate someone if he lost. The "snub" was a non-issue, because nobody knew precisely what happened. But it is tradition to congratulate your opponent when they win, and she did not do it. That's wrong.

29. It's only obsessive non issues when it's about Clinton.
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 12:24 PM by IndieLeft
But you know what it reminds me of... How Bill-O won't mention Olberman's name on the air, for fear that he will give him better numbers.

And besides... It's just customary... political etiquette to congratulate the victor. She's not just being petty, she's being a sore loser.

6. Conceding graciously when you lose a contest is a RW talking point?
I didn't know graciousness and respect were right wing values. LOL

15. Obama congratulated Hillary for her win in NH. He was gracious,
and then he gave an amazing speech that lifted his disappointed supporters out of their doldrums.

16. It doesn't look good for her
If she doesn't either concede or congratulate Obama in her speeches. It's looking like she doesn't want people to know she lost these contests.

That's how I look at it.

23. When do candidates "concede" or "congratulate" IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CONTEST??
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 11:29 AM by WinkyDink
These are ROUNDS, FGS; when it's OVER, the vanquished will congratulate the victor.

But just for fun: Let's see if Obama congratulates HRC after her win in PA.

It's ok for the first round, I guess but are they supposed to congratulate each other after each and every state?

It's silly.

26. Virginia, Maryland and DC don't count.........crabs
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 11:48 AM by twiceshy
These are all crab-centric states where folks spend a great deal of time catching crabs and cleaning crabs and making crab cakes. Who cares who they voted for - they don't count. My sister and her husband live in Virginia Beach and their votes for Obama don't count - too many crabs.

30. I'm sorry, why should she?
Aren't they running against each other? Since when does she have to congratulate him?

And Obama supporters think Clinton supporters are quick to jump the gun.

Why has she changed her tactic now? Sore loser.
